Job description

At Powerlink, every possibility starts with you

We believe life's about possibilities. And so is the future. That's why we need you.

We're working at the heart of Queensland's energy transformation. Now more than ever, we need people who want to help us deliver a world-class energy future and ensure we continue to navigate through this once in a generation energy challenge. Join us and make it happen.

Life at Powerlink

As the Senior Estimator you'll help us connect a more sustainable energy future for more than five million Queenslanders and 253,000 businesses. Your work with us is about every light turned on, every community connected, and every future made possible.

  • Family friendly and flexible working arrangements.
  • Competitive remuneration package + 12.75% superannuation.
  • Health & wellbeing benefits, including corporate health plan with employee discounts, annual flu vaccinations.
  • Powerlink offers robust leadership development through integrated programs, fostering growth across all levels.
Find a career that matters and lasts

As a Senior Estimator you will be accountable for the development, management and continuous improvement of the Major Projects estimating standard. This role will work alongside associated members of the Major Projects division to embed and verify best practice standards for project estimating across the portfolio.

  • Development and embedment of the estimating standards for Major Projects in alignment with industry best practice and taking into consideration the existing Powerlink estimating practices.
  • Lead the establishment of the Major Projects estimating data library whilst maintaining ongoing engagement and transparency with the wider organisational estimating functions.
  • Lead Cost & Schedule Risk Analysis workshops and associated activities in an expert capacity to enable independence of the risk quantification, including providing independent opinion on application of contingency for individual projects.
  • Regularly engage with estimating teams on individual major projects to provide guidance, mentoring and support with their consistent application of the relevant estimating standards and procedures.
The community you will join

Based in Bowen Hills reporting to the Manager Project Controls Standards, this role will actively collaborate with estimating personnel within the projects driving consistency and adherence to standards and to identify and promptly deploy lessons learned to create the Major Projects estimating data library that will improve predictability and efficiency across the total pipeline.

Our Major Projects Office exists to manage the governance and controls that underpin the lifecycle of our large-scale projects - establishing our strategic aspiration to become a major developer that safely delivers complex and significant CAPEX projects over the next decade.

Your expertise
  • Degree level qualifications in Engineering, Construction Management or Quantity Surveying
  • Experience in estimating systems and benchmarking databases

Desirable

  • Australian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (AIQS) or the Association for the Advancement of Cost Engineering International (AACEI) certification

We'd also love you to have:

  • Extensive experience in a project environment, with good understanding of both greenfield and brownfield development and delivery.
  • Demonstrated practical skills and experience in project cost estimating for complex multi-disciplinary, high value infrastructure projects (experience in HV infrastructure will be highly regarded).
  • Proven ability to develop, maintain and embed estimating standards, ensuring their consistent application and continuous improvement.
  • In-depth understanding of Project Lifecycle, from inception to commissioning, including ability to verify and challenge the application of the estimating techniques and provide expert advice as necessary.
Be the start of every possibility

To kick start your career at Powerlink, apply by clicking the button above, attaching your resume and cover letter on our careers page before midnight on Sunday 21st April 2024. Kindly be aware that the Recruitment team will commence the review process during this period.
