Job description

Who Are We?

Shoalhaven Family Law is a specialist Family Law firm located in Nowra on the beautiful South Coast of NSW.  Family law is all we do and we are not your ‘typical’ law firm.

We have built a reputation for providing outstanding client care, both in the knowledge we provide to our clients and the experience they receive from our firm. We are committed to simplifying Family Law and genuinely care about the work we do and the people we work with.  We have a strong focus on efficiency using technology, processes and practical solutions to resolve issues for our clients.

We pride ourselves on high standards for both our clients and team, as supported by being the only law firm in the Shoalhaven recognised on the prestigious Doyles List for Family Law in 2022, 2023 and 2024 and having won Employer of Choice at the 2022 Shoalhaven Business Awards.

Our team share a passion to change the way families experience the legal process following separation.  We value working with our clients and focus on practical and honest advice and solutions.  We are not interested in practicing law ‘the way things have always been done’ and unhelpful litigious conflict driven communications do not spark our joy

We are innovative and creative thinkers, who show initiative, go above and beyond and have exceptional attention to detail.  Our team are organised, able to deal with the stress of a fast-paced environment, are skilled in time-management and have great communication and interpersonal skills.

We are looking for people who are seeking more than a job: they want to grow and add value to their team, clients and community.

We work closely with one another and pitch in when someone needs a hand. Our team is all about collaboration and growth and we encourage the personal development of all our team members.  We share respect for each other, a good sense of humour, sweet treats and sporadic sing-alongs or dancing to brighten our moods.

Who are you?

You are a Family Lawyer who is purpose driven to provide high-quality work for our clients and are seeking more than just a job.

You are passionate about making a positive impact in the Family Law space, genuine and approachable and have a minimum of 3 years post admission experience (PAE) in Family Law

Ideally, you will have 5+ years PAE and be an Accredited Specialist in Family Law or working towards achieving accreditation.  You will want to expand your career under our umbrella in a supportive team and may be looking towards partnership in the future.

  • You pride yourself on having great attention to detail and problem solving skills.
  • You are organised, able to deal with the stress of a fast-paced environment and skilled in time-management.
  • You have great communication and interpersonal skills and are not afraid to pick up the phone.  You understand the human side of Family Law and want to build genuine relationships with our client’s and colleagues.
  • You are humble and foster a culture of mutual respect.
  • You are innovative, show initiative and go above and beyond for our team and clients.
  • You are equipped to independently draft correspondence and Court documents, manage client appointments and Court appearances.
  • You can appropriately manage 25+ Family Law clients with the support of our Administrative Team and Director.
  • You are willing to be creative and think ‘outside the box’ to achieve the best outcomes for our clients.
  • You can focus on the bigger picture for our clients and do not get caught up in the minor details of a problem (tit-for-tat) or exacerbate conflict with aggressive correspondence.

How are we different?

There are too many things to list, but some things you may like include:

  • We prioritise a work/life balance with our core office hours being 8:30am to 4:00pm Monday to Thursday – 28 hour working week.
  • We have a completely fixed fee service for our client’s - no time recording, billable hours, WIP checking or monthly invoices.
  • We love to celebrate wins and collaborate with events, workshops, team bonding and food.  Check out our socials for some examples.
  • Our office closes for a minimum of 2 weeks over Christmas each year and you get an additional week of paid leave to cover between Christmas and New Year.

If this sounds like you or someone you know, we would love to hear from you. Please provide your resume and a personalised cover letter addressing the above criteria to be confidentially considered for this role.
