About the role
National Parks and Wildlife Service has a unique opportunity for a Senior Field Supervisor to work as part of the team and contribute towards the conservation of the natural environment, flora, fauna and Aboriginal heritage.
Senior Field Supervisors lead and shape the direction of diverse teams in the delivery of field operations for the NPWS. Working closely with the Team Leader Fire and with the responsibility of leading a team of Field Supervisors and their respective teams of Field Officers (located in Glenbrook and Blackheath), the role is both an office and field-based position that assists in developing, directing, and empowering teams to solve problems and deliver Hazard Reduction programs in the field. You will be relied upon for performance management, works programming, prioritisation, and resource allocation in a changing geographical, and functionally diverse environment.
About you
As a supervisor, you'll be experienced in managing and leading a dynamic team and juggling multiple projects at once. Your organisational skills and adaptability will be key to your success, coupled with your communication skills and ability to liaise with diverse stakeholders. The ideal candidate will be motivated to drive a positive and collaborative culture throughout the team. You'll be comfortable with a high level of autonomy to manage the planning, development, implementation, and delivery of approved maintenance works, and programs. You'll work with Rangers and contractors to ensure the delivery of programs and priority projects and be equally comfortable using various office-based technologies to maximise efficiencies and effectiveness.
Essential requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to work with the Agency's statutory obligations as they apply to conservation natural, Aboriginal and cultural heritage and resources and experience in exercising delegated authority for law enforcement.
  • Demonstrated experience in, or detailed knowledge of, various trade skills and experience in the purchase, management and utilisation of plant and equipment.
  • Demonstrated experience in ensuring effective planning, management and completion of maintenance programs and construction of park/recreational facilities such as roads/fire trails, walking tracks and buildings; and pest and animal control.
  • Demonstrated ability and experience to operate and supervise the operation of machinery, plant and equipment for maintenance and construction work whilst complying with Work Health and Safety standards, with a willingness and ability to obtain Workcover certification if required.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform a fire crew leadership role and incident control functions.
  • Current Senior First Aid Certificate and current Australian Class C Drivers licence or equivalent including four-wheel driving certificate, and willingness to fly in light aircraft.
This is a physically active role suited to candidates of all genders who are fit, enjoy working outdoors as part of a team, and are eager to learn and develop the skills and qualifications needed to contribute toward improving and maintaining NSW's most precious natural places.
Applicants must meet the requirements of a firefighting medical which is inclusive of a clearance to undertake frontline firefighting roles. The applicant must pass the task-based fitness assessment to a moderate level within the probationary period (up to 12 months) and annually thereafter.
The role holder must obtain certification at the appropriate level prior to undertaking firefighting/incident control duties.
