We currently have an exciting opportunity in Sydney which plays a major part in the success of Hannover Re globally. We are a major player in the reinsurance market in Australia and New Zealand and we have the benefit of being small and nimble but with the financial backing of one of the largest reinsurers in the world. 

We are seeking a Senior Financial Accountant to join our Finance team within our Property & Casualty branch.  The role will be a permanent position reporting directly to our CFO. 

About the role

As a Senior Financial Accountant  you will be responsible for preparing and supporting financial reporting, cost planning, journal processing, reconciliations and data analysis.

Your day may look a little like:

• Preparing and analysing financial statements in compliance with accounting principles and standards
• Developing and managing budgets, financial forecasts and variance analysis
• Transaction journals processing and reconciling accounts
• Conducting financial analysis, identifying trends and providing insights to support decision-making
• Being responsible for investment and cash flow management including bank reconciliations
• Identifying opportunities to improve financial processes and systems for efficiency and effectiveness
• Assisting in tax planning and compliance
• Establishing and maintaining internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensuring accurate financial reporting
• Coordinating and supporting audits and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies

You will need to have:

• Experience with (minimum 3 years) and excellent knowledge of local APRA reporting requirements, focussing on regulatory compliance and reporting requirements
• Experience and expertise in AASB17 / IFRS17
• Advanced level Excel skills
• CPA, CA or equivalent is desirable
• SAP experience
• Strong interpersonal and relationship management skills
• Strategic thinking capabilities
• Ability to liaise at a senior level
• Excellent organisation, attention to detail and ability to prioritise effectively
• Clear and effective communication, both written and verbal
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills
• Ability to work with minimal supervision and as part of a team
• Confidentiality
• Ability to meet deadlines
• Flexibility and the willingness to share and pass on knowledge
