About our Engineering Team
The Jetstar Engineering Team are at the forefront of delivering operational excellence. They are responsible for ensuring the airworthiness and reliability of our fleet.
As part of the investment in our future, we have a fleet of new A320NEO’s arriving from mid-2022 and we recently launched the Melbourne Engineering Precinct, which is the primary maintenance hub of our network. Our team has the opportunity to work not only on Jetstar aircraft, but also support Qantas Group A320/1, B717 and A321 Freighter aircraft and Jetstar Branded Airlines (JBA’s) in Singapore and Japan. The Melbourne Precinct has also become the proud new home for our Apprentice Program.
The Opportunity
We now have a Senior Fleet Engineering Manager opportunity available at Jetstar.
The Senior Fleet Engineering Manager will be responsible for the through-life airworthiness, regulatory compliance and asset management of the Airbus/ Boeing fleets and delivery of world-class operational and safety expectations. The Senior Fleet Engineering Manager will lead a team of professionals to develop and implement the fleet management strategy for each aircraft type at Jetstar.
Key responsibilities of this role include:
  • Ensuring the ongoing airworthiness management of the Jetstar (Airbus / Boeing) fleet.
  • Ensuring the safe, reliable and economic performance of each aircraft within the Jetstar fleet in accordance with the CAME and related procedures.
  • Developing the (Airbus/Boeing) Fleet Engineering and maintenance strategy as an input to Jetstar group fleet and asset management decisions.
  • Developing the short, medium and long-term fleet asset management plan (including new aircraft and retirements) ensuring thorough analysis and iterative cost projections under multiple scenarios.
  • Delivering analysis that contribute to operating cost (such as fuel, crew, airports etc) to enhance the accuracy of operating cost models and route profitability perspectives.
  • The development, management and ownership of the relationship with key suppliers (such as Boeing / Airbus) for through-life management.
  • Fleet management commercial outcomes, in collaboration with other commercial group functions, building connections with suppliers and OEMs that support the objectives of the fleet management plan.
  • Development and revision of the Approved Maintenance Program (AMP) to ensure safe, compliant, reliable and cost-effective operation.
  • Ensuring the monitoring, assessment and implementation of required Instructions for Continued Airworthiness (ICA’s). Developing the ETOPS manual and ensure that aircraft are maintained in accordance with the approved ETOPS program for the aircraft within the fleet.
  • Ensuring the development and approval of a Minimum Equipment List (MEL) for the Jetstar fleet and authorisation of any “Authorities to Proceed” that may be required.
  • Liaising with Qantas departments on aircraft operational matters and providing engineering analysis, data, advice, support and approvals for the Jetstar fleet as required.
  • Supporting operations during normal operation and AOG situations by providing fleet management support and technical expertise
  • Ensuring an effective reliability program exists for the Jetstar fleet and reliability and safety outcomes are achieved.
  • Building and maintaining a working relationship with CASA and other applicable NAA’s on airworthiness matters.
  • Ensuring the fleet remains compliant with all Mandatory AD’s and regulatory actions Ensuring cost effective and sound financial decisions are made when modifying or upgrading aircraft and negotiating with internal partners and suppliers to ensure that they are incorporated as planned.
  • Managing the team to deliver safety and MDR investigations and liaising with customers, manufacturers and the responsible NAA. Ensure technical performance and management system meetings are conducted as required by the CAME.
If you bring the following qualification and experience and wish to relocate to Melbourne - Australia, then we would love to hear from you:
  • At least 10 years of experience in continuing airworthiness management roles.
  • Tertiary qualification in Engineering or Business or equivalent experience
  • Extensive industry experience in engineering and maintenance
  • Deep understanding of aircraft maintenance, maintenance programs and reliability programs
  • Thorough understanding of Airworthiness and certification regulations
  • Broad experience across CAMO functions.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading staff in a technical support role and experience leading diverse groups/departments
  • Strong leadership capability
  • Ability to build relationships and influencing skills at all levels within and external to the organization
  • Strong commercial awareness
  • Analytical thinking with the ability to breakdown complex problems and resolve conflicting requirements
  • Ability to make decisions without being influenced by personal or commercial pressures
