Senior Geotechnical Engineer

About the role
Supports the geotechnical design planning, investigation execution involving new greenfields and existing brownfields sites, geotechnical design, design execution, hazard management and monitoring performance response to mining operations. Supports and enables the implementation of the Ground Control Management Plan (GCMP) across MRL operating mines.
ROLE REQUIREMENTS
- Planning, budgeting and execution of Greenfields and Brownfields geotechnical investigation programs aligned to business growth plans
- Provide risk-based geotechnical advice to operational mine sites relating to open pit and waste landform design, design execution practices, hazard management and monitoring / response to monitoring performance;
- Regular updating of the GCMP and supporting ground control registers in managing the mine site geotechnical risks;
- Ensure that geotechnical-related data is managed appropriately to support the ongoing requirements of the mines;
- Contributing to the development of geotechnical design and monitoring solutions for mining projects;
- Consulted for inputs into the geotechnical monitoring strategy;
- Consulted for inputs into geotechnical design requirements to support business planning of projects.
Qualifications
- +5 years experience in open cut mining geotechnics and open pit mining, including a good understanding of mine geology and open pit practices;
- Relevant experience with involvement in geotechnical investigation programs (logging, management and collation of data);
- Strong project management skills (designing and executing field programs)
- Previous experience with industry standard mining geotechnical software and stability analysis (2D limit equilibrium and / or 3D modelling);
- A recognised Tertiary Degree in Civil, Geological Engineering or Engineering Geology (or related geological discipline) or equivalent experience in Geotechnical Engineering;
- Post-graduate qualification in Geotechnical Engineering / Engineering Geology will be advantageous
