About the role:

MinRes Heritage Field Operations is expanding, and we are seeking Senior Heritage Field Officer to  join the team.  The Senior Heritage Field Officer is responsible for planning and coordinating MinRes’ heritage surveys and field activity programs across our MinRes site operations in the  Yilgarn, West Pilbara, Central Pilbara regions.

You will have the ability to work closely with the heritage teams, Traditional Owners and their representatives, heritage consultants, and our MinRes Heritage Superintendents, that will lead and support you with the safe delivery of a Heritage Field program.

A key component of the role is establishing and maintaining strong and mutually respectful relationships with Traditional Owners to meet heritage approvals and compliance fieldwork requirements across MinRes project areas.  

You will report directly to the Superintendent, Heritage Field, and be on various lifestyle friendly roster either 8/6 or 2/2  to oversee our Heritage field programs as the business requires.

Key deliverables:

  • Coordinate the safe and timely planning and conduct of Heritage Field survey, compliance and consultation to meet MinRes’ regulatory and agreement requirements.
  • Support the development of the Heritage Field team’s skills and knowledge to support effective field program outcomes, team collaboration, and team performance.
  • Create a safe working environment and ensure that the field team and external stakeholders understand and comply with MinRes safety requirements.
  • Regularly review Heritage Field procedures and ensure they are aligned with heritage procedures and safety management requirements.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to coordinate Heritage Field activity program scheduling and logistics. This includes planning and delivery of surveys, research, compliance activities, and Traditional Owner / heritage consultant participation.
  • Manage heritage assets and resources, teamwork schedules, access permits, rosters and travel, and field equipment maintenance and replacement schedules.
  • Proactively work with the heritage compliance and approvals teams to clearly understand approvals and regulatory constraints, and best manage field work schedules and resources.
  • Provide high level Heritage Field-based management advice to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Build and enhance positive and respectful relationships with our native title partners and internal stakeholders, to support positive heritage management outcomes.
  • Proactively work with Heritage Field Superintendent and relevant stakeholders to appropriately manage and report heritage incidents, fieldwork delays or issues, and to facilitate timely and effective resolution.
  • Foster a positive and professional team and workplace culture that delivers outcomes as required, promotes safety, collaboration, inclusivity, and a problem-solving mindset.  
  • Effective team and leadership communication and reporting within required timeframes.

What you’ll bring to the team:

  • Previous experience, tertiary qualification or equivalent in related discipline, such as archaeology, anthropology, environment, land management, safety), preferably in a mining context is beneficial.
  • Knowledge of the WA Aboriginal Heritage Act 1972, particularly in relation to Heritage Field activity and approvals.   
  • Experience with work positively in partnership with Traditional Owners will be highly regarded.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to lead a team and communicate confidently and in a cross-cultural context.
  • Ability to deliver results within tight timeframes, and excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong computer and written skills, preferably with exposure to approvals reporting and incident management.  
  • Ability to understand, apply and communicate corporate safety and heritage processes / procedures, such as safe working procedures, incident management procedures, field procedures.
  • Highly developed administrative and computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office and other IT management systems.
  • Knowledge of, or ability to obtain, GIS skills including use of ArcGIS and handheld GPS devices
  • Current driver license, with ability to safely operate a 4WD or 4WD qualification.
  • Current senior first aid skills.
