The opportunity
This is a unique opportunity, working as a Senior In-house Legal Counsel, to partner with the energy brand of the business. You will play a vital role within this Australian team and assist with the growth of the business, to become one of the leading independent power producers within the country. You will work across a variety of in-house legal workstreams, contributing to the vision and strategy of this business. This role predominantly supports the energy stream however at times, you may also be required to support other regions and/or work closely with the head office team.
You will provide a full suite of legal services to the energy division for its Australian operations, covering development support, commercial negotiations, transaction management, corporate governance, dispute resolution and other ad hoc general legal matters. There may be times you will engage with external legal services. Key areas of practice for this role are:
- Property & Planning
- Project contracts for energy developments (i.e. construction)
- Energy markets including offtake agreements
- Project financing
- Corporate governance
- Provision of general in-house legal advice to team members, executives and partners
- Reviewing current contracts
- Providing legal advice on commercial transactions, including engagement, drafting, negotiations, due diligence and execution
- Advising on risk exposure and solutions to mitigate any risk
- Assisting with reporting to the Board on legal matters
- 5+ years PAE in a mid or top tier law firm, energy retailer or energy developer
- Experience in one or more of the following practice areas – projects, construction, property, project finance
- Commercial acumen
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills
- Excellent stakeholder management, with the ability to liaise with a variety of different people
- Exceptional organisational skills
- Ability to work collaboratively and play a significant role in the inhouse legal team.
