How will I help?
The Group Investigations (GI) team provides investigative and intelligence services to business units across the Westpac Group. This includes the investigation of internal (staff misconduct) and serious misconduct incidents inclusive of Whistle-blower investigations as well as the identification of underlying risk issues relating to those investigations across the Group.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Conduct investigations into sensitive/high risk misconduct by employees across the Westpac Group, including concerns arising from Whistle-blower disclosures.
- Conduct investigations comprehensively, effectively and in accordance with the principles of procedural fairness.
- Collect data needed to investigate complex misconduct. This includes all evidence (physical, verbal or circumstantial) to be collected, indexed and stored in a manner to ensure continuity test is passed when assessed for Court acceptance.
- Manages work activities to balance short- and long-term priorities.
- Contribute actively to strategic planning processes and help to ensure a shared understanding of strategic direction and corporate priorities.
- Consult with stakeholders across the Group and foster a work environment where people work collaboratively towards a common service goal.
- Liaise with key conduct stakeholders in 1st and 2nd Lod Compliance/Risk teams.
- Provide SME (Subject Matter Expert) advice on conduct risk to internal customers i.e. Mortgage Operation Investigation Unit, Sales & Quality conduct teams.
- Collaborate with Legal to initiate civil / criminal proceedings on behalf of the Group in instances where financial loss has been sustained because of misconduct.

What do I need?
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in an Investigative field.
- Demonstrated investigative experience, interview skills and techniques gained in either Law Enforcement, Regulatory investigations role, Human Resources, Legal and/or the relevant Financial Services Industry.
- Demonstrated experience leading and managing investigations ie workplace investigations (Serious misconduct); financial crime (AML/ABC/FCT).
- Demonstrated experience gathering evidence and preparing reports for compliance and risk assessment and/or preparing briefs of evidence, preparing witness statements, statutory declarations and affidavits
- Demonstrated analytical skill sets with some exposure to SAS; SQL; Python or PowerBI.
- Strong knowledge of Evidence Act, Whistleblowing legislation, Anti- Discrimination legislation.
- Sound knowledge of Banking Procedures, Westpac Group’s Code of Conduct, Operational Risk and Compliance Frameworks.
