As a Senior Lawyer, your role entails providing high-quality legal and strategic advice with a commercial perspective to support the interests of the Group. Your primary focus will be on the Commercial Insurance business, covering various aspects such as:
- Insurance Product Development and Administration
- Insurance Product Distribution
- Regulatory Compliance
- Contract Drafting and Review
Your overarching goal is to support the Legal and Secretariat strategy, assisting the Manager Legal and the team in delivering effective legal solutions to advance the Group's interests. Additionally, you'll be expected to address any other legal matters that arise in the course of business operations.
What you'll do
Reporting to the Manager Legal, Insurance Advisory, your responsibilities will include:
- Provision of legal advice in relation to development and administration of Insurance products (Inc. PDS reviews, product development advice, statutory notices and disclosure)
- Legal advice in respect of the distribution of Insurance products and partnering arrangements (Inc. broker and intermediary arrangements, and strategic partnerships)
- Act as point of technical escalation for matters in your functional areas
- Identify matters which have the potential to impact the Group's interests and provide expert legal advice to protect these interests
- Provide legal advice in respect of regulatory matters involving ASIC, APRA and the ACCC
- Support business' compliance with financial services legislation, privacy legislation and legislation regulating the issue and distribution of financial products
What you'll need
- Tertiary qualifications in Law - Mandatory
- Current Practising Certificate - Mandatory
- Admission as a Solicitor or Barrister in any Australian Court - Mandatory
- Relevant experience in legal advisory work in relation to insurance, distribution and financial services
- Experience in financial services, ideally insurance and/or distribution and advice
- Demonstrates a high degree of knowledge of relevant area of law and practice experience
- Ability to make effective decisions in a timely manner and to escalate as appropriate
- Highly developed critical thinking skills, and the ability to complete work in a resourceful, agile and commercial way
- Demonstrated Lawyer capability aligned to internal Suncorp Legal Capability Framework
