This is a new role offering flexibility in working days.About our Team:Our team provide in-house legal services to the Board, executive leadership, and clinical and operations teams across the Child & Adolescent Health Service (CAHS). This includes providing legal advice and managing litigation and commercial matters to support CAHS’ overall mission to deliver the highest quality health services to children and young people in Western Australia. Our team comprises General Counsel, and Mediation and Legal Support Services (MLSS), which manages medicolegal functions including medical treatment liability claims, coronial matters and release of information. Position Profile and Role: We are seeking an experienced lawyer with the skills to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. Reporting to the CAHS General Counsel, you will provide pragmatic legal advice on complex and sensitive matters across the breadth of our paediatric health service. Your responsibilities will include:Identifying and managing legal risk on behalf of CAHS.Managing, in conjunction with external Counsel where applicable, a wide range of litigation including in respect of applications for medical treatment in the Family Court.Working collaboratively within the team in the management of medical treatment liability claims, coronial matters and release of information.Drafting, reviewing and providing advice in respect of contracts about a wide range of subject areas, including medical research. Supporting the development of policies that comply with legal requirements. Informing and educating staff about legal requirements.Building strong and effective partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.Coordinating the provision of services to CAHS by external legal providers.This role requires strong conceptual, analytical and communication skills and the ability to exercise professional judgment in the context of competing priorities. A degree in law and evidence of admission to legal practice in Western Australia is a requirement for this position. Relevant legal experience in government or health settings, or in the laws applicable to children, will be highly regarded.
