If so, we want you on our team! Sadleirs, a leading Australian family-owned business specialising in freight forwarding, logistics, and warehousing, is seeking a sharp and experienced Senior Legal Counsel to join our Head Office.
Reporting to General Counsel in this pivotal role, you'll play a key role in safeguarding Sadleirs' legal and ethical standing. Your responsibilities will include:
Key Duties
- Provide support and assist with review and drafting of contracts relating to commercial, property and logistics matters and support the business to manage commercial relationships.
- Provide legal advice to all areas of the business, the Executive and the Board as required.
- Review documentation and consider compliance with relevant legislation.
- Keep informed of pending industry and regulatory changes, trends and best practices and assess the potential impacts of these on organisational processes.
- Provide support and guidance to management team on managing new opportunities and their associated risks.
- Advise the business on insurance related matters, particularly for material contracts or new business.
- Pro-actively identify obligations arising from relevant requirements and standards contained within regulatory systems and internal policies applicable to Australia/NZ business operations, including ACCC, corporations’ law, safety and environmental laws.
- Support the business in conducting or directing internal investigations or compliance matters and review of processes.
- Support training and education of the management team, employees and other stakeholders.
- Assist the Company Secretary with company secretarial matters.
- Support General Counsel to ensure that the Sadleirs group is conducting business in compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies.
Skills, Qualifications & Experience
- Current Australian Legal practising certificate or entitlement to hold such a certificate.
- The role will suit a lawyer with 7+ years post admission experience, including experience as an in-house lawyer.
- A keen sense for commercial outcomes and delivering quality legal advice.
- Confidence to run matters and make decisions to achieve pragmatic solutions.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Experience in logistics or transportation industry is desirable, but not essential.
- The right to live and work in Australia.
