About the role
In this position, you will lead a team in looking after our street and park trees, ensuring outcomes meet Council's procedures and best practices. Engage with residents, the community, contractors and stakeholders to achieve optimal results for Geelong's trees and community.

Work type: Permanent full time
Classification: Band 6 ($90,263-$97,365 pa plus super)

Key responsibilities include:

  • Provide effective leadership to the Arboricultural Inspectors and their teams, focused on achieving success through the continued development of team capability and engagement.
  • Competently manage the delivery and performance of Council’s arboricultural maintenance program through the efficient use of physical, human and financial resources.
  • Provide excellent customer service and arboricultural advice to internal and external stakeholders to ensure the application of best practice in tree management for Council owned and managed trees.
  • Implement and monitor contracts, ensuring compliance with established Service Level Agreements and adjusting for commercial sustainability and competitiveness.
  • Manage Councils response to legislative requirements for Electric Line Clearance.

About you
To be successful in this role, you will have experience in managing arboricultural operations and a Diploma in Horticulture (Arboriculture) or substantial relevant experience.

Essential:

  • Demonstrated experience in managing contracts including managing time, setting priorities, planning and organising work to meet objectives, deadlines and budgets.
  • Understanding of legislation and Australian Standards relevant to the arboricultural industry.
  • Ability to develop and implement responsive arboricultural maintenance programs and procedures.
  • Experience managing an arboricultural team in accordance with OH&S legislation.
  • Strong communication skills, including negotiation, community consultation, writing reports, work requests and submissions.
  • Certificate II In Powerline Vegetation Management.
  • Current Victorian Drivers Licence
  • Current Working with Children Check (Employee)
