As a business unit of Corrections and Justice Services within the Department of Justice and Community Safety, Justice Health oversees the delivery of health, mental health and alcohol and other drug (AOD) services to persons in Victoria's adult and youth justice facilities by contracted service providers.Justice Health works in partnership with the Aboriginal community, under the Victorian Aboriginal Justice Agreement Burra Lotjpa Dunguludja, to improve outcomes for Aboriginal people and communities including through active participation in the Aboriginal Justice Forum and associated Collaborative Working Groups.About the RoleThe Aboriginal Health Unit is responsible for the design, development, implementation and monitoring of initiatives to strengthen Aboriginal health care within both adult and youth custodial settings. This includes initiatives to:

• ensure that health care services meet the needs of Aboriginal adults and young people living in custody including free prioritising culture cultural strengthening addressing trauma and supporting healing
• increase Aboriginal people's engagement with health care services.
• enhance the cultural safety of health care services

The Aboriginal Health Unit will achieve this through working in partnership with key stakeholders including Aboriginal people in adult and youth custody, members of the Aboriginal Justice Caucus, Aboriginal Controlled Community Health Organisations and peak agencies, the wider Aboriginal community, contracted health service providers, custodial staff and other services provided in custodial settings.The Senior Manager will lead and support a team policy and project staff to deliver solution-focused advice and outcomes on major policy, strategy, projects, and initiatives that align with the department's priorities. You will also have a role in forming and embedding Aboriginal Justice priorities across departmental systems, policies and processes through exceptional internal engagement.Note that regular state-wide travel will be required for this role.About you

• Knowledge, understanding and practical application of the cultural issues and sensitivities impacting the healthcare of Aboriginal people in custody.
• Experience in managing projects, including within tight deadlines
• Excellent knowledge of Aboriginal culture and society and understanding of historical and contemporary issues relating to Aboriginal Victorians.
• Strong knowledge of, and demonstrated experience, partnering/working with Aboriginal communities and advisory groups, including sophisticated and culturally aware stakeholder engagement.
