Access the National Relay Service
Apply independent scientific judgement in the analysis of patient specimens using histological, immunohistochemistry, enzyme histochemistry, Neurohistology and molecular histochemistry leading to the verification and validation of test results, and the provision of advice to the clinical unit where appropriate.
Key competencies (role specific criteria)
You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following:
- Proven high-level knowledge, skills, and ability to analyse patient specimens by applying advanced independent scientific judgement in the subspecialty areas of Molecular Histochemistry, Neurohistology, Enzyme Histochemistry and Immunohistochemistry.
- Proven ability to exercise independent scientific judgement in providing advice to peers, anatomical pathologists, surgeons, clinicians, and other internal and external clients impacting patient care and service delivery.
- Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to train and educate staff while actively participating in and contributing to continuing education and other professional development activities.
- Proven ability to develop and apply scientific practices and actively contribute to research activities within the service and externally through collaboration with other disciplines, research groups and universities.
- Demonstrated ability to initiate and implement quality and service improvement activities to continually improve patient care in accordance with NATA/ISO accreditation/certification.
Qualifications, registrations and other requirements
- The successful applican must hold at least, a tertiary degree (or equivalent) qualification in science from a recognised university or tertiary institution.

Vaccine Preventable Diseases (VPD) requirements
- It will be a condition of employment for this role for the employee to be, and remain, vaccinated against one or more of the following vaccine preventable diseases during their employment: Hepatitis A & B, Measles, Mumps, Pertussis, Rubella and Varicella.
- Additional vaccinations including Japanese Encephalitis and Rabies may also be required for this position.
- Existing staff that are engaged prior to 1 July 2016 are not subject to this condition of employment unless they apply for a role with VPD requirements that is with a different Queensland Health entity (i.e. one HHS to another HHS, department to a HHS, or HHS to department).
