Unleash your creative expertise as a Senior Metal Worker / Preparator at Thylacine. Join our multi-award-winning team of designers, makers, and storytellers and help us to craft captivating visitor experiences, exhibitions and public artworks that celebrate Australia's diverse stories and history. Working within our vibrant Canberra workshop, you'll collaborate with fellow artisans, makers, and designers, engaging in innovative projects that elevate your craft.

You will be a key collaborator within both the Design and Make teams, contributing to the development of the design concepts through to the production of unique visitor experiences. Your experience and expertise will be utilised to create high-end metalwork and object supports, for our exhibition projects.

In this role, you'll provide leadership within the workshop, guiding and mentoring other team members.

Essential Requirements:

  • Bring 5+ years of experience as a skilled Metal Worker or preparator.
  • Proven experience in collaborative workshop team environments.
  • Ability to interpret detailed drawings, job sheets, and cutting lists.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail coupled with effective strategic problem-solving skills.
  • Able to work independently and collaborate effectively within a team.
  • Display a keen problem-solving aptitude with a strategic mindset
  • Openness to travel as required.
  • A positive attitude and a deep respect for others.

Highly Preferred:

  • Previous involvement in assessing, handling, and designing object mounts, or a strong willingness to learn.
  • Proven track record of meeting project deadlines.
  • Experience in specialised fabrication and bespoke metalwork.
  • Past involvement within a museum or gallery workshop.
  • Strong preparatory skills.
  • Skill in prioritisation and time management.
  • Familiarity with CNC machine operations.
  • Proficiency in site installation procedures.
  • Competency in TIG Welding.
  • Hold a valid white card.
  • Knowledge of fit-out and construction processes.
  • Forklift certification is advantageous.
  • First Aid certification

Salary range

$75,000 - $85,000

Remuneration will be commensurate with experience.
