The Role and Responsibilities
Reporting to the Director of Finance and Business Services, the Stand-alone Senior Payroll Officer will be responsible for effectively and efficiently processing the organisation's payroll and perform other payroll-related functions.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Manage the overall processing of all payroll functions from start to finish in the agreed timeframes;
- Calculate payroll tax, superannuation, PAYG, workers' compensation annual returns in accordance with legislation;
- Prepare payment distributions for salary-related payments, including superannuation;
- Act as the primary point of contact for all payroll enquiries, making yourself available for payroll query resolution as required;
- Maintain knowledge of award, FWA and all payroll-related event data;
- Prepare end of month payroll reporting as per the agreed monthly timetable;
- Provide assistance for the reconciliation of all payroll-related general ledger accounts and for end of year statutory financial reporting and audit;
- Manage reporting and administration of all Workcover claims including providing support to the business with employees returning to work;
- Assist the Human Resources Manager with reporting requirements like WGEA and administration as and when required; and
- Assist with projects and other payroll-related tasks as directed by the Financial Controller.
The Successful Candidate
Within the context of the role described above, the ideal applicant will be someone who has the following experiences:
- A minimum of 4 years' experience working in a similar capacity;
- Proven competency in conducting casual employee pay runs and familiarity with rostering systems;
- High-level of communication skills and ability to communicate well with staff, visitors, contractors, clients, and executive personnel;
- Intermediate to advanced computer literacy is essential;
- Knowledge of current relevant payroll-related legislation;
- Experience handling and managing Workers' Compensation claims; and
- Above all else you will be diligent, punctual, enthusiastic and be ready to engage with a variety of stakeholders.
