The Network Assets & Assurance (NA&A) team at Metro Trains Melbourne includes more than 2000 people from Infrastructure, Innovation, Engineering, Rolling Stock, Technology, Strategic Asset Management and Planning, Integration and Development.
About the role:
Reporting into the Head of People Network Assets and Assurance, this role will lead and manage a team of four. This position exists to lead and manage the People function for the infrastructure division by partnering with the General Manager, leadership team and senior leaders to implement the People strategy to enable the business to achieve its short-, medium- and long-term objectives. The position will be a trusted business advisor to the General Manager Infrastructure and a member of the relevant senior leadership team. You will have the natural flair to influence business strategy and outcomes.
To be successful in this role you will have prior experience working as a Senior Business Partner across the full spectrum of People lifecycle activities, with a key focus on Enterprise Agreements and a large, unionised workforce.
Key Accountabilities:

  • Lead, coach, mentor and develop a team and develop effective working relationships to advise, influence and challenge stakeholders to deliver their people plans in line with the overall People Strategy
  • Play a key role on several Leadership Forums highlighting People related changes and outcomes and the appropriate actions to support the divisional team
  • Work closely with internal and external stakeholders to review, negotiate and represent Metro Trains Melbourne in employee relations and industrial scenarios with the view that the employee and business objectives are front of mind
  • Experience working with General Managers and Senior Leaders to apply the appropriate knowledge to lead and manage their teams throughout the employee lifecycle and address emerging divisional issues related to the Employee Experience both with a HR lens and Operational perspective
  • Act as the performance improvement driver and provoke positive changes in people management
  • Maintain organisational structures in line with changes to divisional and financial bottom-line objectives
  • Engage with people leaders on the impacts of new roles, replacement strategies, salary benchmarking, contractor management and maintenance of position descriptions that link back to overall business strategy
  • Partner with People Centres of Expertise teams and the business to identify areas of opportunity and support the delivery of people solutions and requirements
About You:
This role is a true leadership and Business Partnering role and will be influential in shaping this exciting phase of the portfolio. As well as being an experienced team leader, you will have:
  • Tertiary qualifications in HR Management, or related discipline essential
  • Minimum 10 years' experience working as a Senior HR Business Partner
  • Demonstrated experience as a trusted business advisor providing leadership for a People partnering function
  • Ability to build effective relationships, work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders at all levels
  • Demonstrated ability to operate effectively in an environment with large, unionised workforce operating under an enterprise agreement
  • Awareness and understanding of employment and workplace relations legislation including workers compensation
  • Proven track record of solving complex and/or technical HR related business issues using a variety of innovative approaches to drive culture, change, high performance, effective leadership, customer & employee experience & safety
  • Previous experience influencing, negotiating, and facilitating key outcomes
