About the role: 

The Senior Policy Adviser, Children and Young People's Health, contributes to the development of evidence based child health policy and reform initiatives for the delivery of person-centred and integrated care within and across health services, community and social service providers. The team focusses on system improvement and reform that promotes and enhances equity and improves outcomes for vulnerable children and young people. A focus of this role will support the implementation of Children's Locals that respond to recommendation 19.3 of Royal Commission into Victoria's Mental Health System.

How you'll make a difference:

The role requires strong project management skills, collaboration across government departments and the health sector to guide policy development and stakeholder communications, and where relevant, successful development and implementation of reform initiatives.

Suitable applicants will be able to demonstrate:

  • Develop policy initiatives that meet government and departmental objectives within resourcing, timeline and budget parameters.
  • Provide authoritative advice, reasoned recommendations and innovative solutions to complex and sensitive issues based on comprehensive research.
  • Monitor and report on high priority issues, risks and trends and prepare and present reports, ministerial briefs, Cabinet and agency submissions.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships and facilitate the flow of information across the department and with key external stakeholders.
  • Lead key elements of the full life cycle of projects to meet departmental objectives including (a) undertaking research, analysis and implementation of projects based on defined outcomes and outputs (b) managing projects or sub-projects and being accountable for the successful delivery and completion of the projects/sub-projects within resourcing, timeline and budget parameters (c) monitoring and evaluating projects to ensure departmental objectives are met.
  • Oversee, monitor and delivering projects in accordance with relevant legislation and government regulations and guidelines.
  • Keep accurate and complete records of work activities in accordance with legislative requirements and the department's records, information security and privacy policies and requirements.
  • Take reasonable care for own health and safety and for that of others in the workplace by working in accordance with legislative requirements and the department's occupational health and safety (OHS) policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate how the actions and outcomes of this role and work unit impact clients and the department's ability to deliver, or facilitate the delivery of, effective support and services.
