About the role
Government department seeks experienced Senior Policy Officers to join them on a full-time, short-term contracts based in Melbourne CBD. As the Senior Policy Officer, you will work collaboratively across the division to assist with driving the implementation of the Government's major planning and building policies, strategies, systems, and reforms.
You will facilitate a whole of government approach to policy reform as part of a broader team in the delivery of key policy commitments and provision of quality planning services to local government, other agencies, and across the Department.
Key duties
Your key tasks and responsibilities will include:
- providing high quality, authoritative and comprehensive advice to the Minister and Executives on policy issues arising in regulation policy.
- managing designated projects and activities to deliver policy reviews, develop evidence-based policy proposals, undertake research and public consultations, and analyse and evaluate public policy options.
- reviewing legislation administered by the business unit, develop, and evaluate legislative and other regulatory options and advise on the implications of specific proposals.
- Develop regulations and legislative instruments.
- Prepare or assist in the preparation of Cabinet submissions, Parliamentary documents, reports, briefing and options papers, Impact Assessment/Statements, and correspondence for a variety of audiences.
- Initiate, manage and maintain effective relationships with senior internal and external stakeholders.
- Effectively negotiate and liaise at senior levels in both public and private sectors when undertaking public policy development or review projects.
Key Selection Criteria
The skills and experience you will need to demonstrate include:
- Prior experience in formulating policy and legislation options and advice.
- Demonstrable understanding of how state government policies and programs are delivered.
- Significant experience in developing project briefs consistent with business plan direction.
- Proven ability to manage and lead complex policy and/or legislative reform projects.
- Ability to develop briefs on highly complex policy or legislative issues that provide options for discussion and consideration and contribute to the development of a set of final options for decision.
- Ability to work collaboratively, build relationships and communicate with influence.
