The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) lead the sustainable development of Western Australia’s regions and agriculture, aquaculture, food and fisheries sectors. About the opportunity
As a Senior Principal Research Scientist, you will lead the delivery of high-quality science research advice within the Ecosystems section of the Aquatic Science and Assessment Branch. You will co-drive the Department’s scientific resource assessment efforts within the fisheries space and be responsible for directing and managing research programs. These programs will provide mathematically robust assessments of varying complexity to meet research strategies. The successful applicant will be required to lead a team of Principal Research Scientists to ensure that mathematical and statistical assessments across a broad range of research projects are conducted to meet Departmental objectives.The broader branch team will consist of up to 30 scientists for which you will have responsibility.
We currently have one permanent full-time position with flexible work arrangements available for immediate filling.
We are looking for individuals with:

  • professional science qualifications and experience using these qualifications in fisheries resource management
  • a passion for scientific delivery and a track record of successfully applying contemporary mathematical approaches aimed at delivering fisheries management advice;
  • highly developed conceptual, analytical and decision-making skills;
  • strong leadership skills and experience managing scientific projects that deliver advice for fisheries and aquatic resource management outcomes.

Am I eligible to apply?
