About the Role
To serve as a consultant and divisional expert for GHG (Green House Gases) Reduction and Electrification where recommendations and decisions are made for strategic/tactical advantage for the long-term marketing leadership position in the industry.
JOB DUTIES:
General: This position is recognized division wide as a resourceful and reliable marketing expert in which the ideal candidate has demonstrated proven success through previous work assignments. This expertise is in a specific product family or customer segment but must include in-depth product knowledge and practical applications, end-user critical requirements on machine features, productivity and operating costs, competitive strengths, weaknesses and marketing tactics, and industry-specific market knowledge. The successful candidate is expected to maintain and apply this industry expertise for the enterprise growth and advancement through formal and informal means.
Must have ability to work with people from many different ethnic and cultural backgrounds. Good human relations skills are required to develop a collaborative work relationship with others inside and outside the business unit. Generally, requires extensive travel (25-50%) to understand and upkeep with regional business conditions.
You will work highly independently with considerable freedom of action and is broadly subject to functional policies and achievement of SMART goals. Individuals must demonstrate teamwork, accountability, creativity, foresight, commitment, business judgment and outstanding machine application or marketing/distribution knowledge along with the sensitivity to and ability to influence customer requirements to support planning and execution of Caterpillar's strategic business goals and initiatives in the following areas;
- Consulting: As divisional expert, you will be called upon to provide consultative and advisory services to Caterpillar dealers, product groups, other enterprise partners and, to the extent possible, customers as deemed required and appropriate.
You will also share knowledge of the regional marketplace with product group commercial management teams to help define long-term product development strategies through the creation of functional specifications based on end-user critical and regulatory requirements.
- Knowledge Development: Another critical responsibility of this position is sharing and transfer of knowledge and experience throughout the extended enterprise on a formal and informal basis. You will be expected to develop good working relations and information sharing networks with peers in Caterpillar's other marketing profit centers, product groups, dealerships and district teams. You will use this experience to develop and maintain high quality sales training materials and presentations that will provide internal and external audiences with appropriate theoretical and practical understanding of their area of responsibility and enable strategic sales growth.
- Commercial Support: You will be responsible for forecasting, developing, monitoring and achieving annual business plans for their area of responsibility using established corporate processes. These plans will cover machine unit and revenue volume targets, PINS objectives and price realization. It will be your responsibility to work with district-based team members to ensure joint achievement of these objectives. Incumbent will update and report to the senior management on the status of plans monthly.
- Promotion: This position is responsible for the promotion of the Caterpillar brand and value within the scope of their product or industry expertise. This may include the planning and development of customer focused marketing communications, development of integrated solutions and merchandising plans, participation in appropriate trade associations and trade shows, or interfacing with government and non-government agencies that influence the industry.
BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of 8 years of Caterpillar and/or industry experience in order to gain recognition as a divisional expert
- Mechanical/Electrical or similar qualification would be desirable, but not essential
- Should have a broad business background and excellent communication skills.
- Thorough knowledge of how Cat dealer partnership and distribution philosophy work to support Caterpillar's sales and growth. Must be able to deal with sensitive issues, and counsel and advise others on new methods of equipment application, new technology and distribution methods.
