About the role
AEMO's Forecasting division is responsible for providing medium and long -term forecasts of Australia's energy supply and demand. The team is responsible for delivering critical data that underpins many of our major reports, including AEMO's Electricity Statement of Opportunities, Gas Statement of Opportunities, and the Integrated System Plan. The team provides:
- Regional electricity and gas consumption forecasts for the National Electricity Market and the Wholesale Energy Market.
- Forecasts of future investment in electrification and energy efficiency, and emerging investments in green energy and renewable gases such as hydrogen.
- Forecasts of uptake and usage of consumer energy resources, including rooftop solar, batteries and electric vehicles.
What you will be doing
- Develop and apply project control processes to the delivery of the Western Renewables Link Project by AusNet, the project Proponent and for work performed by AEMO and others.
- Assist in developing and maintaining master schedule working closely with both Internal and External Stakeholders including VicGrid.
- Manage the project controls and planning capability within the contract to ensure an efficient, effective and sustainable capability to achieve the required level of service.
- Baseline plans, establish and manage dependencies, and track tasks as part of project delivery.
- Develop and Implement Earned Value Matrix, ensuring periodic and timely reporting.
- Coach, Mentor Cost controller and accurately report on planned vs actual progress and costs.
- Identify opportunities and risks, develop mitigation strategies, monitor and report on schedule impact and status of identifies risks and opportunities.
- Identify, track and report on key milestones and prepare periodic reports.
- Assist in review of Contractor forecast.
What you will bring to the role
Education/ Certificates
- Tertiary qualification in relevant disciplines (engineering, commerce/economics, mathematics, science, operations research)
Experience and Knowledge
- 5-7 years’ experience within the energy sector, with exposure to electricity markets, distributed and consumer energy resources, including electric vehicles. Exposure to gas markets, gas pricing, hydrogen, is desirable.
- Proven ability to organise meetings and workshops, and develop suitable communication to lead a group through consideration of complex matters.
- Well-developed and demonstrated data analysis skills, analytical thinking skills and the ability to interpret and communicate quantitative insights. Expected experience in tools like SQL and Excel
- Ideally, experience in statistical modelling in languages such as R or Python.
- Proven ability to work seamlessly with other teams, including effectively engaging with internal stakeholders.
- Well-developed in supporting technical studies and the interpretation / presentation of results.
- Experience in preparing and publishing complex reports and other documents.
- Understanding of role and functions of AEMO and the operation of the NEM.
- Detailed knowledge of the regulatory and investment framework for the Australian Energy Markets and an understanding of economic assessment techniques.
- Sound understanding of challenges and opportunities faced by AEMO with a rapidly transforming power system, particularly in relation to sector coupling, including but not limited to hydrogen, gas, transport and the influence of decarbonisation.
