The Opportunity
Senior Project Engineer - Electrical to join the Regional Studies Engineering team and support the Study Managers for the Stage 2B Feasibility design of the RE projects at Boddington. You will work closely with our Energy Manager finalising the FS design and Western Power connection application for one of the largest wind farms in Western Australia, while working closely with our Energy & Decarbonization team who are delivering the electric fleet as part of the Newmont and Caterpillar Zero Carbon initiative.
You will also be required to provide Electrical Project Engineering expertise for the other studies as required. You will work closely with other operation electrical engineers, site stakeholders, contractors and consultants working on all electrical aspects of power generation, High Voltage (HV) transmission and distribution networks and infrastructure, motors, variable speed drives and other electrical and instrumentation infrastructure at our mining operations across Australia and Africa.
You will look to deliver optimised, safe and cost-effective design solutions to meet business needs in a timely fashion through strong collaboration with stakeholders, suppliers, consultants, specialist and study teams to handover Stage 2B or 2B/3 studies in a well-planned executed state ready for operations/major projects/sustaining capital teams.
The role reports to the Engineering Manager - Regional Studies and works with other members of Engineering and Regional studies teams managing engineering deliverables in accordance with Newmont Global Projects and Engineering governance.
The role is based in Perth with a hybrid work arrangement with a minimum 2 days in and in in Subiaco, Western Australia. Occasional site travel may be required.
Accountabilities
- Provide Project Engineering leadership, support and direction for the major studies allocated by ensuring engineering designs are optimised in regard to scope of works, standards compliance, safety, schedule, quality, and budget requirements from Stage 1 Scoping to Stage 2B/3 Definitive Feasibility.
- Monitor Project Engineering progress and facilitate technical meetings.
- Provide and coordinate expert technical reviews (drawings, documents, calculations , HAZiD, etc), guidance and advice, acting as governance stewards to control deliverables compliance and requirements.
- Be Accountable for all electrical engineering required for the studies.
- Coordinate SOW development, review and approval of technical reports.
- Be accountable for the technical evaluation of electrical equipment, power supply, distribution system and alike.
- Ensure compliance of relevant standards and specifications in consultation with the site representatives.
- Resolve technical queries and RFIs.
- Monitor project progress, risks and compliance to schedule and cost within your area of responsibility.
- Provide effective coordination of early study phases and detailed design, procurement support, material management to ensure project delivery in line with agreed execution plans.
- Identify potential issues/challenges that may affect the progress of engineering deliverables and implement approved corrective actions, keeping the Engineering Manager informed.
- Agree and validates variations and manage contract issues.
- Develop technical documentation including tender packs, SOWs, study reports and other Newmont Major Projects deliverables.
About You
- A relevant Engineering Degree recognized by Engineers Australia for Chartered Engineers
- A proven background in a similar Engineering / Capital Works environment to include engineering and/or Project Engineering experience in large scale complex projects, including processing and non-processing infrastructure, with a focus on High Voltage transmission and distribution.
- This includes technical documentation development and reviews, safety in design and risk management, project management systems, understanding of investment methodology and capital approval systems, QA/QC processes, engineering governance and specification development and/or reviews.
- Ideally minimum of 7 years' experience, however strong candidates with minimum of 5 years' experience will be considered.
- Experience in large scale, complex processing facilities or heavy industrial site electrical maintenance and operation.
- Knowledgeable in construction methods, practices, quality assurance and field engineering.
- Strong Communication, leadership, interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to positively influence others.
- Ability to facilitate multi discipline and cross functional teams.
- Sound understanding and proven experience in developing and managing schedules.
- Sound knowledge and understanding of Change Management processes.
- Experienced with MS suite.
- Demonstrated experience in managing or working with EPC/EPCM/ECI consultants or contractors will be well regarded.
- Knowledge of applicable statutory regulations and standards prevailing in NT and WA.
- Experience with energy generation units including solar, wind turbines, wind monitoring devices will be advantageous.
- The following is not essential but will be highly regarded:
- Utility-scale solar generation, wind and/or battery experience
- Engineering or consulting experience within the power generation industry
- Experience in utility-scale design, construction, maintenance, engineering or management
- Experience with grid connected generation in accordance with applicable Technical Rules.
- Demonstrated experience in managing or working with EPC/EPCM/ECI consultants or contractors.
