As the most Senior Project Manager in the team, the successful applicant will allocate time to both defence project management and nurturing the project management discipline itself.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing leadership and mentoring of your project management and project support team.
- Cultivating a fulfilled and engaged project management workforce.
- Nurturing career pathways for project support and management staff.
- Managing the performance of activities to achieve team goals and successful project outcomes.
- Applying ASDEFCON and SAFe knowledge and helping to shape the practical fusion of the two.
- Defining and tuning project management processes in synergy with the engineering disciplines.
- Understanding ASDEFCON contract management and execution expectations including project data and performance reporting.
- Defining and maintaining project cost models, resource forecasts, schedules, financial performance, risks, issues and opportunities.
- Ensuring realistic project plans are developed and maintained.
- Working with other organisational function areas to ensure adequate and timely supply of necessary resources.
- Tracking activities against project schedules, budgets, scope, risks, quality, and user satisfaction metrics.
- Managing expenditure against approved project budgets.
- Managing stakeholder expectations and involvement in projects.
- Directing the risk management approach for projects and ensuring that risks and issues are managed in line with policy.
- Communicating project status information clearly in verbal and written form.
- Presenting information within a complex Defence environment to suit different audiences.
- Supporting the team in delivering outcomes using traditional and agile project management methodologies.
To be successful in the role, you will need:
- At least 10 years' experience as a Project Manager or 5 years as a Senior Project Manager.
- Experience project managing large and small projects, ideally within the Defence domain.
- A sound understanding project management across the defence capability lifecycle.
- Familiarity in the delivery and sustainment of software-based projects.
- Experience working with both waterfall and Agile project methodologies.
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills.
- The ability to manage and interpret ambiguity to deliver against evolving business requirements.
- Experience in industry project management standards such as Prince2 or PMBOK.
- Motivation to lead a dynamic team supporting leading edge technology
Ideally, you will also have:
- Experience as a Project Manager in the Defence industry.
- Relevant tertiary level education in Project Management or a related field
- Knowledge and experience of Government procurement, finance, and reporting
Due to the nature of this role, applicants must hold a minimum of an NV1 security clearance to be considered.
