Salary Range of $120,230 to $129,297 Base (dependent on experience, skills and capabilities) plus 11% Superannuation + Smart Salary Packaging Benefit.

The Opportunity: 

The Project Manager will be situated within The George Institute’s Guunu-maana (Heal) Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Program. Guunu-maana cuts across content areas and is conducted within Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander ways of knowing, being and doing, with a focus on social determinants of health, health systems and healthcare delivery.

The Project Manager will lead the food and water security, Gender Equality Disability and Social Inclusion (GEDSI) and First Nations work as part of the DFAT funded project- Building resilient and people-centred health systems for non-communicable disease prevention and control in Pacific and Southeast Asian countries (RESist-NCD).

The project involves partnering with organisations in Fiji, Vietnam, Cambodia, the Philippines and Papua New Guinea to strengthen models of integrated NCD care, optimize health system building blocks, and strengthen food and nutrition policy for NCD prevention.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Manage and oversee projects ensuring the timely delivery of milestone and agreed outcomes
  • Lead and coordinate a GEDSI and First Nations analysis, framework and strategy for partner countries (Papua New Guinea, Fiji, Philippines, Cambodia, Vietnam)
  • Lead the food and water security aspects of the project within Fiji and PNG, working closely with local country partners to build connections with community, collect and analyse data and to strengthen the development of local workforce.
  • Work with relevant George institute employees and external collaborators to develop and implement food and water and GEDSI strategies.
  • Work closely with key contacts across countries in the Asia Pacific Region Engagement and liaison with key stakeholders, health services and community partners
  • Contribute to development of research tools, capacity strengthening programs and program documentation
  • Ensure the maintenance of excellent reporting in SPOT database across all phases of the projects including reporting impact for the program
  • Monitor and track budget allocated for the project
  • Ensure all communications and work practices are effective, culturally acceptable and are delivered in a manner sensitive to the cultural principles of First Nations communities and staff
  • Travel to sites as required
  • Day to day administration activities such as filing, data entry, responding to communications via email, telephone and face to face and setting meeting agenda’s and minute taking if necessary.
  • Conduct quality checks at study site locations

Our Successful Candidate has:

  • Excellent understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and/or demonstrated experience working in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health care/research
  • Strong and demonstrable coordination and communications skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate and work with First Nations community organisations and stakeholders within Australia and the Pacific
  • Relevant experience in project management
  • Strong and demonstrable coordination and communications skills
  • Proven ability to work independently
  • Able to identify skills needing development and pursue opportunities to develop those skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and build relationships within a multidisciplinary team
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills including meeting management and protocols
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable in the face of changing organisational priorities and
    ambiguous environments
