Job description

At the City of Parramatta, we are leading our city through unprecedented change and transformation as we grow and transform into a Global City. The intensity of growth and investment in City of Parramatta means that Council, their partners, and community have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to shape the City’s future and ensure it is culturally, socially, environmentally, and economically sustainable.

Council’s City Design Group is a team of urban design professionals. We define, coordinate, and integrate urban form and public domain outcomes across city strategy, planning policy, infrastructure delivery and major projects. We are a passionate group of designers who bring a sophisticated understanding of the urban structure and three-dimensional morphology of the city to strategic and land use planning.  Through collaboration with colleagues within our City Planning and Design Directorate and across Council, we guide and deliver outcomes for a more sustainable and liveable City.

We offer the opportunity to join our team to make Parramatta a world-class city. Through design leadership on city shaping plans and policies, we will collectively address Council’s vision, priorities and strategic objectives for the benefit of our community.

About the role

This position is responsible for providing expert professional urban design advice and management for a range of projects aligned with Council’s strategic directions for the City of Parramatta and contributing to the achievements of the City Design Unit overall.

The role includes:

  • Infrastructure delivery in coordination with State Government such as Metro, Light Rail and Powerhouse
  • Strategic city shaping projects such as Civic Link and the Parramatta City River Strategy
  • Public domain and capital works projects by other parts of Council
  • Providing strategic design advice and review of precinct, planning proposals and development proposals
  • Collaborating across Council to deliver holistic and coordinated outcomes for the City
  • Engaging with key stakeholders and the community to inform, advocate and negotiate Council’s priorities and policy directions

About You

To be successful in this role you have the proven ability to lead and manage significant, cross-functional projects on time and on budget, managing the needs of multiple stakeholders, along with the ability to think strategically to identify and capitalise on opportunity.

  • Leadership in stakeholder consultation and ability to effectively advocate for high quality outcomes across different audiences
  • Ability to prepare and provide clear and appropriate expert advice on urban design matters
  • Effective written and graphic communication skills including use of Adobe Suite, CAD, and 3d digital modelling (ie. SketchUp)
