Job description

About the role 

This is a newly created role within our Regulatory & Compliance team that will see you providing expert-level support to merger integration initiatives whilst supporting the Regulatory Affairs team to advocate for mutual banks in relation to regulatory reforms. Overall, you will be a valued member of a collaborative team who’s committed to delivering a customer-focussed service as we embark on a significant period of growth and change. 

Specifically, you will: 

  • Provide timely and accurate expert advice and legislative interpretation on compliance obligations
  • Establish and maintain good working relationships with key internal stakeholders
  • Support the business in the ongoing management of regulatory compliance risk issues within programs of work and projects
  • Assess the business’s future ventures to identify possible compliance risks
  • Support the Regulatory Affairs function by assisting in the preparation of submissions to peak bodies, regulators and legislators, as well as advising on regulatory changes as required
  • Provide mentoring and coaching to more junior team members
  • Maintain continuous improvement and compliance knowledge across the team
  • Participate in industry body forums (e.g. COBA working groups)
  • Assist in preparation of necessary reports for Management and Board Committees

About you 

As an experienced Compliance Specialist your proactive approach to managing compliance risks has been key to your career success.  You are collaborative and enjoy sinking your teeth into new projects and working with those around you to find the best solution and deliver simple but effective compliance controls and processes in a rapidly changing environment. 

Additionally, we seek: 

  • Tertiary qualifications or equivalent in law, compliance, audit or risk
  • Significant experience within the financial services or banking industry in a legal or compliance team
  • Expert knowledge of financial services laws and regulations 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
