Eligibility: Open to EveryoneThe OpportunityWe have an opportunity for a Senior Research Officer to be part of our SARDI Division within the Department of Primary Industries and Regions.The primary purpose of the role is to coordinate, plan and conduct high level research within the Livestock Innovation and Welfare (LIW) group which provides specialist services and innovative research capabilities to enhance livestock reproductive success and maximise the productive output of sheep, cattle and pigs.The role develops and maintains collaborative working relationships with other SARDI divisions, such as Aquatics and Crop Sciences, to develop and deliver research aimed at improving the production of livestock both within the state and nationally, with a focus on supporting producers to improve profitability in the face of climate challenges.The role coordinates and delivers complex project research activities which contribute to key LIW research programs and the development of strategies to improve animal production efficiency and enhance reproduction in key livestock sectors.The role contributes delivering the agency’s priorities to benefit the South Australian and National livestock industries with a goal to improve livestock productivity in a changing climate.The role contributes to delivering leading edge applied research to support the development of sustainable and economical animal production through increased production efficiency and capacity. • Successful applicant will be required to satisfactorily complete a National Police Check (NPC) prior to being made an offer of employment.
• Australian residency or current works permit is required (responsibility of applicant to provide evidence of a current work permit).
• Essential: A post graduate degree in science or relevant field
• Desirable: PhD in relevant field

Requirements

• The role is primarily based at Turretfield Research Centre, however travel to other SARDI research centres (Struan, Minnipa, Roseworthy), and commercial properties may be required.
• Possession of a current driver’s licence and willingness to drive.
• Out of hours work and inter / intrastate travel may be required.
• Australian residency or current works permit is required (responsibility of applicant to provide evidence of a current work permit).
• You acknowledge your work, health and safety obligations and our expectations when applying for a role.
• The incumbent will be required to undertake emergency management training and must be willing to participate in emergency preparedness, response and recovery activities required by government agencies.
• Upholding the ethical behaviour and professional integrity standards as contained in the Public Sector Act, 2009.
• Participating in PIRSA’s Performance Management and Development Program.
