What you'll be doing
The Heart Centre for Children Psychology Program was established in 2008 within Kids Heart Research, Cardiac Services, Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network (Westmead and Randwick). We are Australia’s first integrated psychology program dedicated to childhood heart disease.
 
Our research spans across all developmental ages and stages, from early life in the womb through childhood, adolescence and young adulthood, parenthood, and grandparenthood. We focus on the issues that are important to children and families, understanding the complex challenges posed by childhood heart disease and developing new and better ways of transforming these challenges.
 
The primary purpose of the Senior Psychology Research Officer is to perform high-quality research, provide significant intellectual contribution to research project/s, and produce high-quality research data for inclusion in grant submissions and for publication in peer-reviewed journals. The position requires contribution to the written preparation of manuscripts and funding applications.               
 
Day-to-day activities may require the co-supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as research assistants and clinical research coordinators.

  1. Relevant Psychology doctoral or other equivalent postgraduate qualification with a significant level of research experience (a minimum of three years of postdoctoral research experience full-time equivalent to enter this scale), or other relevant scholarly training
  2. Extensive experience in research output, published work, presentations at conferences and seminars, demonstrating intellectual input into the conception and direction of original research and increasing independent implementation of a research project.
  3. Demonstrated capacity to carry out research in strong partnership with children and young people with critical or chronic illness, their parents, and other family members.
  4. Track record of demonstrated research output in peer-reviewed journals.
  5. Significant experience in co-supervision, training, and guidance of junior research support staff, and/or, undergraduate and postgraduate students.
  6. Capacity to prepare and/or contribute to successful research proposals to external funding bodies and other agencies.
  7. Contribute significantly to administrative and other professional activities within the research group or institution.
  8. 8. Performs tasks requiring the integration of substantial theoretical and technical knowledge to develop or apply new technologies or approaches.
