Children’s Cancer Institute is looking for a Senior Research Officer to work in our Brain Tumour Group. This position demands a profound understanding of paediatric brain tumours, particularly Diffuse Midline Glioma, coupled with advanced proficiency in cutting-edge methodologies such as ATAC-Seq, Chip-Seq, RNA-Seq, and in vivo studies pertaining to brain tumours. Candidates must possess prior experience in unravelling epigenetic and post-translational modification pathways. Furthermore, the Senior Research Officer will actively contribute to scientific publications, progress reports, conference presentations, and funding proposals. They will also play an integral role within a broader research initiative, fostering collaboration and actively participating in laboratory operations
In this role you will be responsible for:
- Co-ordinating internal and collaborative research projects
- Conducting research either as a member of a team or independently
- Achieving an outstanding level of competence in all aspects of experimental work
- Assisting with planning and coordination of research efforts and directions
- Producing or contributing to high-quality publications
- Preparing or contributing to the preparation of research proposal submissions
- Presenting research data at conferences and seminars
- Co-supervising postgraduate and/or undergraduate students
- Training and guiding junior employees and students on a day-to-day basis
- Preparing or assisting with the preparation of gene technology (OGTR) and ethics approvals
- Complying with regulatory guidelines (including OGTR and ethics) and Institute policies
- Getting involved in professional activities

To succeed you will have…
- A PhD in a relevant scientific or medical field
- 5 – 10 years post-doctoral research experience
- Demonstrated ability to design and conduct experiments independently as well as in a team environment
- Demonstrated experience in cell/molecular biology/in vivo experiments and project management
- A track record of publications
- Advanced computer skills
- Demonstrated commitment to conducting experiments involving animals and GMO’s under strict ethical and regulatory guidelines
- Demonstrated commitment to OGTR and other regulatory requirements
- A high degree of professionalism and respect for others
- An interest in developing techniques and using the latest technology in research projects
