Senior Scientist (Qc Specialist)

Status:                   Full time – 37.5 hours per week 

Department:         Biochemistry 

Position Summary:           

Reporting directly to the State Head of Department, Biochemistry, this role has the primary responsibility for automated workflow and state-wide oversight of quality control.

About The Role:

• Coordination of automated workflow to ensure the provision of efficient and effective laboratory services
•  Liaison point between and within the department
• Providing direction to SENIOR SCIENTISTs, scientists and technical staff within the department
• Troubleshooting
• Assist with training and assessment of workplace competencies
• Assist in the management and administrative tasks of the department, including rostering and resourcing 
• Responsibility for the management of the department in the absence of the Head of Department
• Monitoring of QC state-wide – including actioning, coordinating interlaboratory comparisons and troubleshooting
• Interpretation and review of QC and QA performance

Selection Criteria:

1. Ability to act independently and within established guidelines, demonstrating initiative, flexibility and sound judgement
2. Exceptional accuracy in data transfer operations
3. Highly developed organisational, time management, communication  and interpersonal skills
4. High level of computer literacy and ability to learn new laboratory information systems
5. Excellent analytical and problem solving skills with a thorough knowledge of quality control and quality assurance
6. Experience in operating and troubleshooting modern automated technology 
7. Commitment to continuing professional development, education and training
8. Appropriately qualified with a relevant tertiary qualification
9. Eligibility for membership to the Australian Institute of Medical and Clinical Scientists, or the Australasian Association for Clinical Biochemistry and Laboratory Medicine ( or equivalent). 
10. Experience as an effective and dynamic leader and problem solver
