About the role
The Senior Server Security Engineer is responsible for overseeing contemporary, enterprise class server operating environments together with monitoring and maintaining TAFE NSW’s servers and evaluating vulnerability management to assist with security operations. This includes maintaining and upgrading existing systems as necessary. The position works broadly and collaboratively with other Security Engineers and specialists and has an afterhours oncall requirement to meet business needs.
We have 1 x permanent position with hybrid and flexible work arrangements and negotiable location within NSW (Subject to campus availability).
About You
We are looking for a Senior Server Security Engineer with robust Server Security knowledge and demonstrated ability to resolve problems in a large-scale complex organisation.
The ideal candidate will have:
Degree in relevant discipline, relevant industry certification or equivalent skills, knowledge and experience.
Experience and knowledge of Essential 8 framework and maturity levels.
Significant experience in Server Security Engineering roles in a large organisation with complex technology systems or similar.
Demonstrated experience applying information security and/or cyber security principles and concepts.
Willingness and ability to work on-call afterhours to meet operational requirements.
A proven ability to work effectively with a geographically dispersed team of technical professionals.
An ability to manage and co-ordinate multiple streams of work and priorities.
Highly Regarded
High level Windows and Linux server experience
High Level Cloud Security Operations and Implementation (In any of the following Azure, AWS and or OCI).

Targeted Question 1. In a large and diverse ICT environment containing many hundreds of Windows and Linux Servers, please describe some of the considerations and challenges when applying Essential 8 (E8) Maturity models across the server fleet. Describe how you would approach these problems along with how and where compromises might need to be applied and managed. Please include any real-world examples and solutions you may have recommended.
Targeted Question 2. In large ICT environments the application space often contains of many custom applications and platforms that were developed inhouse or by third party vendors. A key cornerstone of the E8 maturity model is related to patching and vulnerability management. Please describe the challenges on how these platforms are updated and maintained on a regular basis without impacting our customers and at the same time meeting compliance under E8 guidelines. Please provide examples and solutions to any situation you may have come across.
