  • Full time, 38 hours p/w, Ongoing role
  • Parkville location with multiple public transport options
  • $150,664 + Salary Packaging + Super + 5 Weeks Annual Leave

About The Social Work Department

The Social Work Department is part of the Women’s Social Model of Health Division which brings together multidisciplinary services and programs that specialise in providing care to women facing challenges that may adversely affect their health. The Social Work Department aims to improve the health and well-being of women and babies attending the Women’s and embraces a view of women’s health that is holistic and considers women’s social, physical, emotional and cultural well-being. The Social Work Department has Social Workers embedded in multiple teams throughout the hospital including NICU, maternity, gynaecology and oncology. Additional teams that comprise the Social Work department also include:

  • Badjurr-Bulok Wilam provides support, advocacy and coordination for Aboriginal women and their families who are accessing services at The Women’s.
  • Spiritual Care meets the spiritual and emotional needs to patients, their families and staff. Services may include provision of emotional and wellbeing support throughout the hospital journey, conversations, ritual, ceremonies, and the sharing of sacred texts and resources.
  • The Family Accommodation Service provides temporary accommodation for patients and families who are from rural areas or interstate or are experiencing extreme crisis.
  • As part of our commitment to comprehensive sexual and reproductive healthcare service, the Abortion and Contraception team at the Women’s provide services for pregnant people who are seeking an abortion.
  • The Family & Reproductive Rights Education Program (FARREP) provides services for people from places where female circumcision or cutting is practised including support, information or advocacy whilst they are receiving care at the Women’s.

About the role

As the Senior Social Work Manager you will report directly to the Director, Social Model of Health and will be responsible for the leadership and management of Social Work at the Women’s. This includes:

  • Operational accountability for the overall development, coordination and delivery of evidence-based services provided by Social Work, Spiritual Care, Family Accommodation Service, Abortion & Contraception Services, Badjurr- Bulok Wilam and the Family and Reproductive Rights Education Program.
  • The achievement of clinical and non-clinical performance targets and ensuring the provision of high-quality patient care delivered through innovative, efficient service models
  • Professional lead for Social Work, i.e. the professional governance of Social Workers (e.g. credentialing and scope of practice, adherence to the codes of conduct for Social Workers, etc.).

As the professional lead for all Social Work staff at the Women’s, you will be accountable to the Director of Allied Health & Clinical Support Services

About you

You’ll bring with you:

  • Eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers
  • Previous experience in managing a complex department within a multi-disciplinary setting, including leading change
  • Demonstrated commitment to a person centred trauma informed approach to service provision
  • A high level theoretical understanding and an intersectional approach to your clinical practice in relation to working with victim/survivors of family violence, sexual assault and intergenerational and complex trauma with a view to provision of culturally safe trauma informed practice and care
  • A high level of clinical knowledge and expertise in the areas of family violence, sexual assault and child protection
