As an engineer in our Group Payments – Payments Engineering you’ll play a key role in their mission to transform Payments by fortifying existing platforms, simplifying and standardizing processes and technology and by enabling our business through reusable end-to-end services. This role will also be a part of our platform’s strong developer community that’s focussed on improving the tech and customer experience. This role is responsible for the design, development and management of the software solutions changes.

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will be responsible for building and running the services for one of Australia's largest financial institutions. You will be part of an Agile team, understanding the requirements, implementing robust code, creating unit tests and helping to automate as much of the SDLC as possible to make sure we can continually improve and deliver better quality with faster speed.

What will your day look like

  • Actively engage in the whole lifecycle (inception, design, development, testing, deployment, operation, monitoring and refinement) of systems and services.
  • Contribute to the design of a broad range of solutions by implementing best suited design patterns.
  • Develop microservices using Java, Springboot, Apache Camel, write Unit Tests and deploy micro services in container platform like GKE, Openshift etc.
  • Effectively use of the latest tech stack to build solutions with automation mindset.
  • Provide code-level feedback for other engineers.
  • Write highly performant code and tune the microservices to achieve the best throughput.
  • Continuously explore new tech frameworks to solve different problems efficiently.
  • Provide suggestions on how to improve the platforms, processes and tools. Share your great ideas in our various forums.
  • Collaborate in agile ways with Product Owners and the wider team.

What will you bring?

We know not everyone will bring all of the skills and experience, and at ANZ we are focused on people bringing a growth mindset to their approach to work. Some of the skills we are looking for are below, but don’t worry if you don’t have all of these as learning on the job is the way we work. But back to some of the skills:
 

  • Sound and in-depth understanding of OOP, design patterns
  • Experience in design and develop solutions using Microservices solutions including APIs
  • Experience with event-based and message-driven distributed system 
  • Extensive experience working with Java, Spring boot microservice in a containerised platform
  • Experience in python, MongoDB would be useful
  • Experience in Cloud is highly valued
  • Experience developing modular, extensible, re-useable components as part of a broad architecture
  • Experience using and developing RESTful APIs
  • Experience working with real time data streams (Kafka, Solace, MQ etc)
  • Good exposure to DevOps tools like Artifactory, DTR, Git, Jenkins
  • Excellent communication and technical consulting skills
  • A self-starter that enjoys a challenge and working in an agile environment
