About the OPPORTUNITY
We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Software Engineer to join our Jindalee Operational Radar Network (JORN) Software team in Melbourne CBD.
We embrace flexible work arrangements at BAE Systems Australia, such as working a 9-day fortnight and part-time.
The JORN Phase 6 Upgrade program is modernizing and improving capability of the system. The Software team is executing a major development program to re-engineer the system to align with modern standards and practices, then incrementally add new capability to the system.
As a result of the growth within our business, we are seeking Senior Software Engineers with demonstrated skills and experience in the development of software products.
Within our JORN software team, you'll have an opportunity to work on areas such as UX design and software development, architecture and integration. We have a growing team with the opportunity to constantly learn and carve out your niche in an area that interests you. You'll have interaction with many other teams and stakeholders such as RAAF operators and engineers in other disciplines. We're a strong team that takes pride in what we do and how we work together, with a lot to offer a Software Engineer looking to expand their skillset.
Key responsibilities include:
* Responsible for the software technical solution, whether as the software architect for that specific software item, or as the team lead of a team delivering a particular software item
* Ensure company Software Engineering processes are tailored to meet needs and Constraints of project without sacrificing the best engineering practice
* Ensure Software Engineering work is undertaken in accordance with project Software Engineering plans
* Manage and track execution of Software Engineering activities with respect to Cost, Quality and Schedule requirements, or as architect, adhere to allocated cost, quality and schedule budgets
* Lead effectively a Software Engineering team or technical scope
* Work with minimal guidance
* Interface with other teams on the project ensuring that the broader project team's needs are taken into account
* Responsible for defining and maintaining elements of the project's Software Engineering plans, and performing Software Engineering tasks in accordance with those plans
* Provide input and offer recommendations for improvement of Company processes and procedures
About YOU
* Working knowledge of Modern C++
* Hands on experience in working in a Linux development environment
* Familiarity with object orientated design and programming concepts
* Exposure to the Atlassian tool suite and Git
* Willingness to actively participate in an Agile Scrum development environment
* Demonstrated problem solving skills
* Previous experience or interest in getting hands on experience with DDS and Qt
* Significant experience in Software Engineering
* Must be eligible to apply for Australian Defence Security Clearance
