A leading higher education organisation headquartered in Townsville with operations throughout Queensland are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to work on a variety of enterprise level projects to enhance the running of the organisation!
Your new role
Established many years ago, this organisation has deep ties to multiple communities throughout Queensland not only due to their educational offerings, but it’s community engagements. Not limited to just these (and the many employment opportunities the organisation brings), the significant research conducted at their many sites aim to change the lives of people for the better.
Reporting into the Software Engineering Manager, you will work within this specially created team of circa five engineering professionals of various seniority (plus contractors, vendors, etc). As this teams Senior Engineer, you will be responsible varying aspects to ensure this teams continual success.
With this role being senior, it’s time will be split between hands-on technical work and the occasional mentorship of more junior members of the team. Working at both an individual and team based level, your duties will vary accordingly.
From a technical perspective, at the team level, this work can include activities such as advising others on most appropriate technologies to use, leading the team through projects and of course writing code to meet a projects goal. From the mentorship level, this can include technical strategies, code reviews, guidance and teaching among other duties.
With this team responsible for the organisation’s enterprise level application and integration technologies, you will be part of varying projects. Focusing on the build, deployment and integration of a variety of in house-built platforms alongside the utilisation of out-of-the-box solutions, examples of this teams work can include:
- Building of this organisations internal Golang based API platform
- Integration of the ATO’s Single Touch Payroll (STP)
- Upgrading of ERP software
- Development of their public facing webapps
- Etc.
With the main technologies in use being across the C#/.Net, Golang and JavaScript domains (among others), this organisation is open to those from a more focused background who are willing to diversify. Whilst not a necessity, experience within the DevSecOps domain would be highly advantageous.

What you'll need to succeed
You will need as much experience/knowledge across the following as possible:
- Go/Golang, C#/.Net and/or the JavaScript ecosystems
- API design, development and architecture (REST, SOAP, etc)
- Database technologies (Oracle, SQL, SQL Server, etc)
- Technical mindset and documentation abilities
- Troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Working with stakeholders at all levels
- Perfect communication skills (written and verbal)
- DevSecOps highly advantageous
NOTE:
- Full Australian working rights are required
- Applicants need to be currently residing in Australia (those outside of Australia will not be considered for this position)
What you'll get in return
You will be offered a permanent role (in Cairns or Townsville) for a leading higher education organisation headquartered in Townsville. This role is paying circa $117,000 base plus up to 17% super with 5 weeks annual leave, multiple onsite amenities (medical, gym, cafes and childcare facilities) amongst other benefits.
