Job DescriptionThe Team - Engineering Platforms - Run
We connect SEEK’s customers to our services while providing the cloud infrastructure on which to host these services. We also provide the observability and monitoring services that our teams need to assure the availability, performance, reliability, and security of the services they run.
Our focus is to enable our customers to run software reliably, safely and with ease as well as to provide SEEK with a world-class engineering platform and expertise, enabling the business to move with confidence and agility.
Reporting to the Head of Engineering, this Senior Staff Engineer is responsible for leading the building and running of Automat, SEEK’s internal developer platform, based on Kubernetes.
This platform is increasingly responsible for serving the traffic that powers SEEK’s employment marketplace websites; it routes traffic and serves containerised workloads and emits telemetry data to give SEEK’s engineers access to the observability tools they need to ensure their systems are behaving as desired.
In turn our teams must ensure that we’re providing a platform capable of providing these behaviours, while enabling SEEK’s engineers to work productively and efficiently. The engineer in this role will work with many engineering stakeholders around the company across multiple time zones, as well as business analysts and members of the leadership team.
The role of a Senior Staff Engineer could include the following:
• Ensure the services /systems/platforms within your sub-domain are fit for purpose, well architected and follow current SEEK development practices
• Help guide other Engineers to drive platform health in their teams by ensuring that our systems are aligned to SEEK’s technical metrics
- Deep dive on technical issues within your peer managers' teams as the need arises
- Uplift and embed technical best practices across Engineering teams within your subdomain
• Strengthen engineering discipline and technology capability across sub-domain
• Partner with technical stakeholders including Architecture, Security, and other technical teams.
• Grow Staff Engineer technical leadership capabilities through coaching, mentor and example behaviour
QualificationsDeep understanding of Kubernetes
Worked in complex technology environments in consulting or marketplace
Worked across Engineering functions to consult on best practice
Mentored and helped technical staff to uplift capability
Proactively shares knowledge and skills to help other team members grow through coaching and mentoring
