Senior station hand

Are you looking for a sea change with career development opportunities? We are looking for an enthusiastic Senior station hand to join our team and support the Farm Manager in the operation of our mixed grazing property. 

Newry Station is a large-scale operation 45km out of Kingston SE, South Australia - just 20 minutes drive to the picturesque Granites Beach!

Newry has 6,500HA of grazing land, stocking self-replacing Merino sheep and Angus cattle. This is complimented with 500HA of fodder production and cropping as part of a pasture renovation program. The property employs 5 full time staff as well as casuals and contractors as needed during peak periods. 

The Senior station hand will assist with all livestock operations, including

• allocating stock to the appropriate paddocks
• assessment of pasture availability
• livestock health management
• shearing and crutching
• Ensuring accurate records are made and maintained for all farm operations including livestock transactions, animal health treatments, inventory
• maintenance of vehicles, plant and infrastructure including fencing and water

The Senior station hand will also be given the opportunity to oversee the farm operations on occasion when the Farm Manager is away. 

The successful applicant must be reliable, have a good work ethic and have a keen interest in the agricultural industry. You will be able to demonstrate good communication and time management. You must be committed to WHS and safe work processes, work well in a team environment, be self- motivated, energetic and take pride in the quality of work they do. 

A car licence is essential. You will be required to have working dogs for use with cattle and sheep in paddock and yard settings.

This is a full time and permanent position with a house included in the remuneration package. Salary will be commensurate with experience. The house is situated on the main property and is a short walk from the school bus stop for Kingston Community School.
