As a Senior Technical Financial Accountant, you will be a part of a team that delivers the external financial reporting and governance requirements for the Qantas Group, providing support to the business units on the application of accounting policies and standards and providing technical accounting advice to the business on key transactions. This role requires strong organisational skills to be able to work under pressure, prioritise conflicting objectives and deliver key milestones. With a wide-ranging scope of responsibilities and stakeholders, this role will provide you with significant development and future career opportunities.
Your core duties will include:
Detailed accounting research and consultation with stakeholders on complex accounting technical matters
Preparation of accounting papers on key accounting matters and transactions impacting the Group
Partnering with the Technical Accounting Manager and the Business to identify key accounting matters and propose the appropriate accounting treatment
Actively involved in the implementation of new accounting policies, standards and interpretations
Preparation of Audit Committee Papers detailing accounting transactions and their impact on the Group for the appropriate period
Preparation of training materials and assistance in delivery of accounting training to the Group
Assist in the provision of accounting advisory services support to the Business Units across the Group
Completion of ad hoc projects as instructed by the Technical Accounting Manager including but not limited to technical accounting advice (for example financial analysis)
Additional team responsibilities include:
Working with the Group External Reporting Manager as part of delivering the Group's external financial reporting requirements for half-year end and year-end including ASX lodgements (4D and 4E); the annual report (including the directors report and remuneration report); financial statement analysis pack; and provision of support and review of the investor presentation, media release and annual review
Working with the Group Consolidation Manager as part of month-end to monitor and improve segment consolidation processes to improve consistency, timeliness and accuracy of segment results consolidation
You’ll have:
A degree in a business-related discipline, with specific finance and accounting emphasis
Accreditation with CA/CPA or equivalent
Strong technical accounting skills with previous experience in an accounting technical role in an ASX listed corporate or a Mid-Tier / Big Four Accounting Firm or demonstrated experience on technical issues on large audit clients
The ability to grasp complex issues and communicate verbally and in writing in a clear and concise manner
Ability to research and provide relevant technical guidance to solve complex accounting problems
Strong intellectual curiosity, with an eagerness to learn and develop own technical knowledge and ability to work independently and as part of a team
A strong analytical mindset with a meticulous eye for detail, whilst still being able to see the longer strategic vision for the Group
The ability to work within deadlines with a high degree of flexibility and engage other employees to provide data as required.
