With three decades of experience and eight locations nationwide, we are a team of vibrant professionals with experience across a range of sectors including renewables, infrastructure, Defence, regulation and policy, resources, and the urban development sector. We provide fully integrated environmental and social assessment and management services including concept and feasibility, technical assessment, consultation, approvals, delivery, operation, and decommissioning. Currently Umwelt are looking to appoint a Senior WHS Advisor to their national HSEQ team.

About the role

As a Senior WHS Advisor, you will play a key role in promoting a positive safety culture among our clients and ensuring high standards of health, safety, environmental, and quality in all our projects. You will collaborate with and assist the Safety, Quality, and Integrated Systems Lead in carrying out and sustaining project related workplace health and safety initiatives and related reporting with a strong emphasis on compliance and continuous improvement. This role will operate at a national level and assist our managers and key staff throughout the company to help them use certified systems in WHS, Quality and Environmental Management efficiently.

This role will perform various tasks such as compliance, auditing, finding areas for improvement, creating policies and procedures, and achieving results that match our clients project requirements. You will ensure that all safety guidelines and procedures are followed, manage the execution of risk assessments, lead risk mitigation activities, and supervise (or assist) as needed in investigation activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Complying detailed risk assessments, identify potential hazards, and implement measures to mitigate and control risks related to health, safety, environment, and quality
  • Developing, implementing, and ongoing management of strategies, policies, and procedures aligned with industry standards and regulatory requirements
  • Delivering and implementing relevant training programs that foster a strong safety culture and ensure compliance across the business and projects
  • Complying client projects specific safety management plans
  • Conducting regular audits and inspections to ensure adherence to relevant standards, regulatory compliance, and best practices. Developing corrective action plans when necessary
  • Overseeing incident investigations, analysing root causes, and developing strategies to prevent recurrence. Ensuring timely and accurate reporting of incidents to relevant stakeholders
  • Providing advice to clients on systems and driving continuous improvement initiatives
  • Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, subcontractors, and regulatory agencies to promote a proactive approach to HSEQ management
  • Maintaining accurate records of HSEQ activities, preparing comprehensive reports, and communicating findings as required to relevant stakeholders

About you

We are looking for an enthusiastic Senior WHS Advisor who is passionate about all thing’s safety and quality. You will have:

  • A relevant qualification - Degree or Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, or a related field
  • 5+ years’ experience within a similar industry (consulting, construction, or engineering, etc)
  • A strong understanding of national HSEQ regulations, standards, and best practices
  • Experience identifying improvements within the health, safety, and quality systems in line with 9001 & 45001
  • A demonstrated ability to write policies and procedures
  • Worked in a consulting project delivery team, providing WHS and compliance advice on all projects
  • A strong understanding of compliance and accompanying systems to monitor and measure safety outcomes
  • An ability to complete internal auditing and demonstrate risk mitigation techniques
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • An analytical mindset and problem-solving abilities to assess HSEQ issues and develop effective strategies
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to prioritise work and meet deadlines, work effectively under pressure without compromising on safety
  • A high level of confidentiality, who is reliable and flexible
  • Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook) and Adobe Acrobat
  • A Return to Work (RTW) Coordinator and mental health first aid qualifications (or willingness to obtain)
  • A current drivers’ licence
