We offer Crisis Accommodation and housing services, alternative high school education, alcohol and other drugs counselling, youth justice support, life skills and employment programs, cultural support and community engagement, among other services. The Role
- The Senior Youth Worker reports to the Team Leader -Refuges, to support with the effective and efficient day to day operations of YOTS’ Crisis Accommodation and support co-ordinated responses with the IWYHS Case Work team for mutual young people.
- Act as the primary point of contact for Youth Workers in the absence of the Team Leader – Refuges, ensuring the proper use of systems in line with the program guidelines and reports on program deliverables as required.
- Promote a safe and nurturing Residential environment for young people experiencing homelessness and ensure the service meets WH&S compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the Team Leader- Refuges to ensure high quality outcomes are achieved for the service in line with Program Level Agreement and Specialist Homelessness Service guidelines provided by Department of Communities and Justice and Youth Off The Streets
- Work as SYW role 46.4hrs per fortnight and 29.6hrs as Youth Worker.
- Attend staff meetings, iWYHS case work meetings and partnership meetings.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to build new partnerships and maintain current partnerships.
- Support the 24/7 case worker, working in partnership to ensure all young people are engaging within the program and are meeting their case plan goals.
- Be the cultural lead for iWYHS. Promoting culture and inclusivity and ensuring the service is culturally and inclusive space for all young people, stakeholders, and volunteers. This includes promoting significant cultural dates, collaboration with the Cultural Development Team and external key community figures in the cultural and inclusive space.
- Create and maintain rosters across the two Crisis Accommodation sites (DBH and RH), ensuring the roster needs meet budgets, contractual agreements, and the needs of the business.
- Promote youth consultation and participation in internal and external meetings and forums.
- Complete monthly supervision with allocated Youth Workers, incorporating their Individual work plans and bi-annual Performance reviews. Encouraging, coaching and mentoring staffs to work towards reaching the program key outcomes. The SNW will provide feedback to the Team Leader -Refuges who will make any final recommendations on overall performances and training needs.
- To support with intake in the absence of the Intake Worker.
- To maintain a high standard of health and safety, reflecting the WHS policies & procedures, employees are required to take reasonable care.
- Consults and collaborates with Team Leader- refuges to design and develop new programs that will benefit the young people opportunities, progression and outcomes.
- Develops strong networks with service providers, local community groups, and Government bodies and provides a platform for young people to access services from these multiple service providers.
- Promotes and maintains a safe and inclusive environment.
- Collaborates with all YOTS Service areas and other agencies to achieve positive outcomes for young people.
Skills Abilities and Knowledge required:
- Experience and knowledge of the Child Safe Standards, SHS framework, YOTS policies and procedures.
- Experience of Australian Service Excellence Standards and how these are implemented within IWYHS.
- Knowledge of NDIS and how to provide a safe environment for young people accessing NDIS services.
- Ability to mentor and supervise Youth Workers, providing them with training and development opportunities.
- Ability to use trauma informed practice and Therapeutic Crisis Intervention to support the emotional needs of young people.
- Experience working with the Office of the Children’s Guardian, The Office of the Ombudsman, Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ).
- Maintain a high standard of health and safety, reflecting the WH&S policies and procedures.
- Ability to ensure the 24/7 sites are culturally and inclusivity safe environments and that the RAP is implemented and maintained within the service.
- Build and maintain meaningful relationships with stakeholders that will benefit and enhance service delivery for the young people.
Desirable criteria, including but not limited to:
- Minimum certificate IV Qualifications in Youth Work or Community Services
- 2+ year’s sound knowledge, and experience in the youth services field
- Knowledge and experience of trauma informed practice (TCI)
- Knowledge and experience in the youth sector, Specialist Homelessness Services and the Going Home Staying Home reform
- Knowledge and experience working with CIMS
