We are looking for a Server Administrator to manage and maintain the computer servers of a high-profile and complex multi-year network infrastructure project.
As a Server Administrator, you will be responsible for:
- Installing, configuring, and updating software and hardware on the servers in accordance with defence security, architectural, and service management processes, policies, standards, and procedures
- Monitoring and optimizing the performance, availability, and reliability of the servers and ensuring they meet the project requirements and objectives
- Troubleshooting and resolving any technical issues or problems related to the servers and their applications, data, and network connections
- Performing backup and recovery functions and ensuring the security and integrity of the servers and their data
- Developing and documenting server protocols, procedures, and policies and ensuring compliance with defence regulations and standards
- Creating and managing user accounts and access rights and providing technical support and assistance to end users
- Working with other project team members, stakeholders, and vendors to ensure the integration and alignment of server requirements and functions with the overall project scope and goals
- Conducting regular server assessments, audits, and inspections to identify and address any gaps, risks, issues, or opportunities for improvement
- Reporting and communicating the server status, progress, and performance to the project manager, sponsor, steering committee, and other relevant parties
- Supporting the servers in accordance with defence Service Integration and Management (SIAM) process, policies, and procedures
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Security, or related field
- Experience in server administration, preferably in the defence sector or related industries
- Knowledge of common server types, such as mail, file, web, FTP, proxy, and application servers, and their functions and features
- Knowledge of common server operating systems, such as Windows, Linux, and Unix, and their configuration and management tools
- Knowledge of common server applications, such as SQL, Oracle, VMWare, and Apache, and their installation and maintenance procedures
- Knowledge of common server security tools and practices, such as firewalls, encryption, authentication, and antivirus
- Knowledge of common server performance and monitoring tools and practices, such as SNMP, Nagios, and Splunk
- Knowledge of common server backup and recovery tools and practices, such as RAID, RMAN, and Veeam
- Certifications such as MCSA, MCSE, RHCE, LPI, or equivalent
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills
- Previous experience working within the defence force or on defence-related projects
- Have a current NV2 security clearance.
