The Role
As a Server Engineer – Project Delivery, you will be responsible for providing expert advice on the design, delivery and uplift of Server (Wintel and *Nix) services in support of service improvement and major project activities across the Strategic Communication and Coalition Interoperability realms of Defence ICT Operations.
Under broad oversight from the Deputy Director Strategic Communication Delivery, and in response to Project Manager and/or wider team needs, the successful candidate will be responsible to work as part of one or more Project delivery teams to deliver server-focused outcomes. The role will be responsible for leading the design, deployment, hardening and uplift of Server-related services in support of Strategic Communication and Coalition Interoperability outcomes on behalf of Australian Defence and our Coalition partners.
The position capitalises on specialist knowledge and experience to assist with the design and delivery of Project capability in support of prescribed Directorate, and wider Defence outcomes.
About our Team
Within the Joint Capabilities Group (JCG), the Defence Strategic Communication Branch (DSCB) – Strategic Communication Sustainment & Coalition Interoperability (SCSCI) is a large and complex team of people tasked with providing efficient oversight and uplift of critical services serving the wider Australian Defence Force and our Coalition partners.
This role will form an important part of the wider capability sustainment and uplift outcomes delivered by the Directorate and the Branch. The position capitalises on specialist knowledge and experience to deliver server driven outcomes in support of secure communication and information sharing initiatives within Defence, and between AUS Defence and our allied/coalition partners.
Our Ideal Candidate
This is a widely focused role covering a variety of Server engineering outcomes in support of the Defence Strategic Communication and Coalition Interoperability outcomes.
Our ideal candidate will have demonstrated recent experience in Server design, hardening, delivery, and uplift, with an ability to adapt to a variety of scenarios. These technical skills will be coupled with a can do and outcome-focused attitude, to ensure Project outcomes are delivered in line with defined needs. While this is primarily Server-focused role, an understanding of IT security, networking, gateway and hypervisors, plus demonstrated ability to successfully engage with widespread technical and non-technical stakeholders will be essential to success in this role.
Regular responsibilities of this role will include:
- Assuming the lead Server Project delivery role as part of a project team to deliver exceptional Server and Application outcomes in support of Strategic Communication capability.
- Plan, design, build and improve Server capability in support of Project delivery.
- Provide advice to the Project Manager and/or Directorate leadership with regard to server licensing, server applications, server hardening, and server hosting (e.g. virtualized environments).
