Job description

Introduction
Thomas J. Watson said it best: 'Good design is good business.' Visualization is critical to discovering data-driven insights and effectively communicating that knowledge to others. Designers at IBM work to create experiences that work together, work the same, and work for our clients. Does the thought of creating the platform at the heart of solutions like Watson, Blockchain, IoT, and Security excite you? If so, read on!
Your Role and Responsibilities
IBM is seeking a Service Designer to join a dynamic product squad at one of our clients in Perth. As part of a multi-disciplinary team, you'll tackle complex, business challenges alongside other builders and thinkers from diverse backgrounds. A successful candidate will be an organized go-getter with solid experience creating end-to-end experiences that span physical and digital interactions. You are a quick learner, enthusiastic, detail-oriented and collaborative -ready to roll up your sleeves and join a team that's helping to bring human-centred design to the world's most vital industries.
Key Responsibilities
- Frame user & process questions, create plans to address those, conduct research, and synthesize the findings into meaningful, actionable insights for clients to help them understand how to achieve their business goals and objectives.
- Guide people through a design process, even those that have not done it before. Comfortable facilitating working sessions to reach outcomes and be able to articulate the 'why' behind design activities to reach business goals.
- Structure information into artefacts like blueprints, journey maps and user flows to allow other squad members to collaborate and aid the storytelling the desired experience to stakeholders.
- Facilitating the collective understanding of the end-to-end, front-to-back experience by mapping the orchestration of events at the intersection of technology, business and design.
Required Technical and Professional Expertise
Key Qualities/skills to be successful in this role:
- Passionate about making complex things simple, working with multiple data points & systems doesn't make you shy away, but lean in and ask 'why' and 'how might we make this easier'. Exuding a 'lets solve this' attitude and love collaborating with others to get there together.
- You can synthesise different view points and visualise a concept to bring an idea to live. Whether through storyboards, wireframes or a simple sketch to make people see it and believe it. Bringing people together is one of your specialities.
- You are a great storyteller, able to explain your problem-solving process as well as comfortable using numbers to quantify the impact an initiative delivers to both users and the business. You don't shy away from metrics and can think on the spot to tell a good narrative.
Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise
- 2+ years applying Service Design in agile / product delivery teams
- 5+ years experience working in a design, or design-like, role within a large organisation
- Professional or University-based design experience with a portfolio representing design artifacts and associated projects
- Demonstrated accountability and adaptability with willingness to readily and voluntarily take ownership of highly challenging tasks and problems, even beyond initial scope of responsibility
- A passion for innovative ideas, coupled with the ability to understand and assimilate different points of view
