Agency Purpose
The Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) is an independent statutory authority established by the Australian Government to maintain an impartial and independent electoral system for eligible voters through active electoral roll management, efficient delivery of polling services, and targeted education and public awareness programs.

The Team
The Launceston Area Office services the federal electoral divisions of Bass and Lyons. You'll work closely with our other divisions in Burnie and Hobart, forming strong team bonds and regularly sharing information. We have a tight knit team who work hard, are passionate about democracy and look out for each other. You will also be one of a network of Service Officers across the country, responsible for undertaking a range of complex and challenging administrative functions in the areas of enrolment, electoral roll maintenance and election planning and delivery.
Being part of the team at election time involves contributing to and leading key projects within short timeframes and in a complex, high-pressure environment.
During the election period, the role is likely to require an increase in working hours, including overtime. During this period, you could be required to do overtime on weekends and public holidays.
The Launceston Area Office team typically comprises of around 5–10 staff, but increases significantly during an election, when we scale up and engage our temporary workforce, and work with a wide range of people with amazing skills from diverse backgrounds.

The Opportunities
We are seeking versatile and energetic people to undertake a range of administrative functions in the areas of enrolment, electoral roll maintenance and election planning and delivery.
Service Officers provide frontline client services to the Australian public, generally answering enquiries on electoral enrolment and the processing of special category enrolment. They are responsible for undertaking work that is moderately complex in nature, under general direction, whilst supporting the planning and project management of key election activities, including recruitment, staffing, and leading the delivery of several projects at election time.
Service Support Officers provide frontline client services to the Australian public, generally answering enquiries on electoral enrolment and the processing of special category enrolment. They are responsible for undertaking work that is of low to moderate complexity in nature, under general direction, whilst supporting the planning and project management of key election activities, including recruitment, staffing, and leading the delivery of several projects at election time.
Service Officers and Service Support Officers play an active role in maintaining the integrity of the electoral roll. They also provide first line supervision to a small team of more junior Officers and provide training to key staff who aid in the delivery of planned activities.
These positions require agility and a growth mindset and during the election cycle will be required to contribute to the delivery of different projects, as agency priorities necessitate and as directed by management.
The ability to quickly form positive working relationships is an important function of this role.
