The Role
As a Sewerage Transfer Operator, reporting to the Manager Sewerage Transfer Operations you will be based at our Brooklyn Pumping Station and be responsible for Safely, reliably and efficiently operate Melbourne's Sewerage Transfer System, while also enabling maintenance and capital improvements.
Your key responsibilities include:
- Monitor, regulate, and optimize system flows in compliance with regulatory and risk management standards, ensuring safety and operational adherence.
- Oversee isolation and return to service of transfer system plant components for maintenance, emphasizing secure operation of high-voltage assets.
- Conduct fault-finding analyses on mechanical and electrical equipment, showcasing troubleshooting skills.
- Review system performance and procedures for efficient asset maintenance and consistent service levels
- Prioritize health and safety by identifying hazards, participating in improvement initiatives, and fostering a secure work environment.
- Ensure strict adherence to OH&S regulations while managing equipment operations under the Permit To Work System.
- Collaborate with maintenance partners for efficient and safe maintenance activities, including site surveillance
- Occasional requirement to work out of hours on plant maintenance activities
On completion of your training, and when required, this position has an on-call roster where you will be required to work some weekends on an on call basis with 24/7 availability. An on-call allowance will be paid to compensate for this.

Salary: MW EA Level 6 starting at $97,168 plus superannuation.
Your Skills and Experience
- An appropriate trade background with mechanical/electrical aptitude and/or Water Industry Operators Certificate.
- Proven expertise in operating transfer/distribution networks or large-scale plant and equipment.
- Appropriate knowledge and experience with hydraulic relationships, pumping, odour treatment and mechanical processes
- This position is eligible for an operational vehicle in line with MW Motor Vehicle policy and procedures, therefore a Victorian Drivers Licence is mandatory for this position.
