The Role

This full time role is based at our Brooklyn Pumping Station. As the Sewage Transfer Control Room Operator you will be responsible for the day to day operations of the Control Room, monitoring and optimise system flows to comply with regulatory, commercial and risk management drivers or other imposed limits. You will analyse the Sewerage Transfer network for issues as represented in the SCADA system and ensure a safe working environment for capital or maintenance works and operate the plant to ensure compliance with Melbourne Water, legislative and EPA requirements.

Your key responsibilities include:

  • Monitor, control and optimize system flows to comply with regulatory, commercial and risk management drivers or other imposed limits (e.g. by treatment plant capacity, maintenance, balancing of flows in extreme wet weather).
  • Fault finding analysis of Sewerage Transfer network issues as represented in the SCADA system
  • Reviewing system performance and procedures to ensure assets are maintained efficiently and meet expected levels of service
  • Working collaboratively with maintenance partners to efficiently and safely deliver maintenance activities, including approving sewer access requests and tracking call in, call out of technicians.
  • Manage the day to day operations of the Control Room.
  • Allow flexibility within the team to perform day to day field activities

This is a Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm position working on site at Brooklyn, and occasional travel to other plants will also be expected.

Salary MW EA Level 5 starting at: $88,476 plus superannuation + $500 Wellbeing Allowance

Your Skills and Experience

  • Demonstrated experience in the operation of transfer/distribution networks or large plant/equipment will be an advantage.
  • Appropriate knowledge and experience with hydraulic relationships, pumping, odour treatment and mechanical processes is preferred.
  • Competence in the use of IT and follow instructions in SCADA systems for monitoring, control, data analysis and reporting
  • Ability to work unsupervised and assess situations to identify problems and take necessary action
  • Ability to communicate effectively with people from different backgrounds, resolve differences and achieve positive outcomes in a professional manner
  • Understanding of the requirements and policies/procedures for maintaining a safe workplace
  • Ability to work in a systematic, well-organised way to complete tasks according to established procedures
  • Demonstrated ability to manage conflicting priorities and work unsupervised.
  • Electrical, Process, Control Systems or Mechanical trade or tertiary qualification is desirable. Experience with water, waste water or similar production plant and equipment would be advantageous. 
  • Full Victorian Drivers Licence
  • Ability to complete Criminal Record, Medical and Police Checks
  • This role is deemed critical by the The Security of Critical Infrastructure Act. The preferred candidate will be required to undertake a further background check AusCheck (please scroll down for further information).

Important information (SoCI)

The Security of Critical Infrastructure (SoCI) Act 2018 requires Melbourne Water, as an operator of critical infrastructure, to prepare a Critical Infrastructure Risk Management Program (CIRMP), which has been undertaken and managed by the Security and Emergency Management Team.

Melbourne Water are required to assess roles across Melbourne Water to determine what roles are critical under the Act. All employees working in a role deemed SOCI critical will require additional background checks via AusCheck. The role of Sewerage Transfer Control Room Operator is deemed critical and the preferred applicant will be asked to undertake an AusCheck.
