Job description

The Position

The Shire of Manjimup is seeking a suitably qualified and motivated individual to join the Shire’s Works team. The role is responsible for providing effective and safe maintenance, repairs, fault finding and diagnostics of the Shire’s mobile and fixed plant, vehicles, and equipment.

 

The role is responsible for, but not limited to:

  • Planning and undertaking scheduled servicing of Shire plant and equipment, trucks, and light vehicles.
  • Diagnosing faults and completing effective maintenance and repairs to minimise rework and down time.
  • Engaging and liaising with contractors to assist with mechanical, auto electrical and fabrication work.
  • Maintaining regular contact with the Works Manager and reporting major faults or breakdowns.
  • Ensuring workshop activities and tasks are completed efficiently, cost effectively and are undertaken in compliance to all regulations and laws.
  • Maintaining effective operation of the Shire’s bitumen emulsion tank.
  • Supervising employees and contractors operating within or engaged by the Workshop department.
  • Assisting with after-hours call outs.

 

The Person

To be successful in this role you will need:

  • Trade Certificate in Motor Mechanics or equivalent including diesel (DSW) and heavy vehicle work (HVW).
  • Good understanding of the mechanics of a broad range of construction plant and machinery, trucks, and light vehicles.
  • Excellent mechanical skills on heavy, light, mobile and fixed plant and light vehicles and effective fault finding and diagnostic abilities.
  • Excellent time management and ability to prioritise work based on the needs of internal customers.
  • Good communication skills and demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Current HC class drivers’ licence.
  • Supervisory skills in a mechanical workshop (desirable).
