Position Summary and Objective
Reporting to the HSER manager, the primary objective of the Site Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Advisor role is to oversee the assessment, alignment, enhancement and implementation of Westside's HSE Management System (HSEMS) from a field operations perspective. This is crucial for supporting field operations, encompassing plant, maintenance, project operations, and contractor HSE management.
As the Site HSE Advisor, you’ll work out of Moura on a 15/13 roster, collaborating with a field-based team of HSE & Environmental Advisors. In this role, you’ll serve as an HSE subject matter expert for field operations, ensuring compliance while also facilitating the alignment between work as envisioned and work as executed.
Position Responsibilities and Duties
Individual Responsibilities

- Report suspected breaches of any Westside policy, procedures or values to their manager or Human Resources.
- Cultivate, manage and maintain positive business relationships with all internal and external stakeholders of Westside.
- Complete any ad hoc duties, tasks or projects as directed.
HSE Advisor Duties
- Collaborate with corporate and field-based personnel to ensure the HSE Management System effectively supports on-site operations.
- Serve as a subject matter expert for field based HSE concerns, offering support and guidance to operations teams.
- Support Site Safety Managers (SSM) in fulfilling their statutory obligations.
- Review operational procedures and identify any discrepancies between the HSEMS and actual work practices, taking necessary steps to address these gaps.
- Facilitate risk assessments and procedure reviews with operational teams as needed.
- Evaluate contractor’s HSE systems and identify improvements through operational reviews.
- Participate in the analysis of events by facilitating learning teams, identifying key findings, and ensuring the completion of follow-up actions.
- Assist in identifying HSE trends that warrant further investigation and discussion.
- Assist in planning and organizing HSE training programs.
- Help facilitate the induction process for both employees and contractors.
- Engage with internal and external stakeholders to identify HSE improvement opportunities through audits, learning team feedback sessions, event analysis findings, and workplace interactions.
- Participate in the emergency management process as needed.
- Provide expertise and guidance on HSE Management System-related topics, including structure and document control processes.
- Assist in monitoring data quality for company HSE systems, such as DoneSafe, Sine-pro, SharePoint, and ChemAlert.
- Stay up to date on HSE regulations, industry trends, and best practices in HSE Management.
Qualifications and Skills
- 3-5 years of experience as a safety professional in oil and gas operations (required).
- 1-2 years of experience in operational gas fields, including plant and associated infrastructure (highly desirable).
- Solid knowledge and understanding of the Queensland Petroleum and Gas (Production and Safety) Act & Regulation (required).
- Proven team membership experience in challenging environments (required).
- Ability to manage personal workload, meet deadlines, and take ownership of the role (required).
- Strong interpersonal communication, report writing, and presentation skills (required).
- Relevant qualifications in Health and Safety, or related discipline (required).
- Proficiency in mainstream software applications (required).
- Familiarity with contemporary safety approaches like HOP, Safety II, and HRO (highly desirable).
- Certificate IV in Training & Assessment (highly desirable).
- Formal incident investigation qualifications (desirable).
- Practical experience with proprietary software such as DoneSafe, SharePoint, Sine—Pro, and ChemAlert (desirable).
- Formal internal or external auditor qualifications or experience (desirable).
